Langley's lump part II

Langley had the fluid removed and testing a couple months back. Since then I would say that lump has doubled in size. Every time I check it I get anxious. So I called the vet it can cost anything from $800-1200 to remove it and send it to the Vet college in PEI. I have been lucky I have never spent that kind of money on my dogs before even my 16 year old GSD mix that passed. (knock on wood) I have been paying $60 a month for both dogs for their whole lives for insurance. I HOPE I can use it. I hope they don't come up with a reason for not being covered. Then why am I paying? Getting ahead of myself so waiting to hear if I am covered. I will do it either way for peace of mind.

But gosh I hope it is covered! :crossed:

Fingers crossed that it is covered and even more so that the lump is just one of those funny lumps that happen from time to time.
It is a lot of Money, cannot see what reason the could have not to cover it?
It feels good to get rid of lumps and bumps......best wishes to you and Langley. :crossed:
Fingers crossed that it is covered and that you find out it is nothing serious
Yes I cannot even think or talk about the thought if it is something serious.
Oh, I sure hope it's covered!

And I agree, with growth noted in size, it's time to really get it checked out. Good luck to Langley :)
Langley goes in for surgery next Friday. Sooooo anxious. Any feedback on dealing with a dog after surgery. I am doing it Friday so I can be with him all weekend. I as well took Monday off just in case. If he is fine I will go in to work, but I thought I would take it off just in case. Hopefully Laika will be nice. She doesn't like anyone acting weird or different.
Sending lots of support and sheepie kisses for Langley and you. Hope it all goes well.

Will he have to wear a cone? You might want to look into the Comfy Cone for him. Its soft and not as clumsy. Do they have any idea of the recovery time for him? They'll probably send him home with some pain killers for him. Really is hard when the babies are sick. Good Luck.
I have no idea. Guess I will find out Friday. Laika would be easier if I tell her to stop something she will, like licking or scratching.
It would be better for him if they could just use light sedation and local anesthetic instead of general anesthetic.... probably the worst of the surgery is the grogginess after waking up and possibly nausea. Keep us posted :) And give Langley big hugs and kisses for me.
Tonks is having a lump removed as well. She's had it between her shoulder blades for a while; well over a year. About 6 months ago it began to get larger, and 10 days ago it began weeping. I'd never seen or felt any fluid, but the area would be crusted over. I already had an appt. for the girls' annual exams, and the vet and I talked about it then. A sample was taken, which came back negative for cancer. So that's a relief. We talked about removing it, and decided that since we'd done a full bloodwork panel with her annual exam, it could act as bloodwork for anesthesia saving us the cost of having to do it again later on. Also, while not urgent, the vet said Tonks' teeth could use a cleaning, so why not do the dental and the cyst extraction at the same time.

Has a sample been taken and sent out for tests on Langley's lump? Does it have fluid, or does it seem solid? Maybe they an only sample the fluid filled kind. Tonks' two procedures (teeth cleaning & cyst removal) are costing us less than what you've been quoted -provided they don't find anything unexpected. Maybe because we'd already had bloodwork done? Tonks goes in on Tuesday for her procedure.
I hope Langley is doing well. Hugs from a fellow Nova Scotian.
They did a fluid sample month or so back and they put him on antibiotics. It came back bigger than ever. I booked a surgery but that doesn't mean it will happen. I will have them look again at it. It isn't weeping.
Oscar has been put under numerous times for growth removals and teeth cleaning with no ill effects. Usually, he doesn't poop for a day or so, since he goes without food for about 18 hrs total, and the first poop smells chemical, from the anesthesia. Yuk. He is slightly groggy when I bring him home, and usually panting and drooling as well. I try to wait until the next day to wash his beard, as it gets pretty nasty from the whole experience.

Like Tonks and Langley, Oscar will have to go under in the next few weeks. He has two papillomas growing on his eyelids, and the one on the lower lid has invaded the tissue on the inside, so it is rubbing against the eye. He's already deaf, so I don't need him to go blind as well! We try to remove these papillomas on his eyelids when they are small, as they just get bigger and require more tissue removal the larger they get. While he is under, he is also getting his teeth cleaned.

Thinking of Tonks and Langley, and fingers crossed for a great outcome.

Laurie
Oh poor Oscar. I will think positive thoughts from him and Tonks. Poor babies, stupid lumps!

I read somewhere that if they aren't removed, they will simply grow bigger. And my vet said that the oozing I'm seeing can happen internally as well, affecting the surrounding tissue.Though if I understood her correctly, that wasn't a big deal unless the growth is cancerous.

If the tests come back negative for cancer, then I'm happy! I assume Langley's test results didn't show anything too scary....?
Yes just seemed like an infection. It has got bigger, doubled. I feel like be best to get it before it gets bigger and will be harder to remove. Or starts weeping or pops which was mentioned.
