New year new haircut

As Archie has had his rear paw shaved to the skin and will be in kennels over February (not sure they actually groom him properly? as they lost my les pooches brushes in the summer, probably attempt it the day before we pick him up? and actually is a huge pile of matts which takes months to correct)

I have decided to hand clip him back down to one fingers depth.

So far the face and head are done - he looks like an evil clown dog :lmt:

Not going to have a tutu like last time I think legs and rear will get done first!

If you go with a tutu, or other fun looks, make sure you get a photo!
Love being able to see those eyes
He looks adorable :hearts: And you are so smart to trim him down before a surgery/kennel stay. They can get really matted up after only a few days. Hope everything goes well.
He looks adorable...
:hearts: Archie looks lovey :hearts:

Poor old pup wasn't best pleased with me today

Head after yesterday

mad clown dog

Innocently chomping his antler horn

What's with you and that camera?

Ye olde englische sheepie dogge, complete with inbuilt Elizabeth collar

Rough work finished and one fed up pup

Oh my antler yeh!

Lots to do yet loads of straggly bits and bits I missed but I think he deserves a well earned break tomorrow from it for being such a good boy 4 1/2 hours of scissoring my thumb and cut fingers need a break too!
Very nice! Archie was such a trooper and deserves his break :)

I hand scissors too...the fingers do get fatigued.
The picture as a clown and elizabethan collar are a hoot. :D
Poor Archie, and you of course. My hubby cuts Summers coat with scissors, it takes for ever. We tried clippers but she has too many matts and doesnt like it. We do her in stages over the space of 3 days. You have done a good job there though. Off to somewhere nice in February?
Yes we are off to NZ

Archie likes the kennels and has a great time as they have 11 acres, but he always comes back as a lump a very very clean lump as they do was him, but I suspect it is a last day of stay thing and the slickers they use are the normal shallow pad type which have no chance with his barbed wire coat.

The cats are suffering these last two days he can see them with both eyes at a time now instead of the usual one peeking through the curtain of hair.

My right thumb is swollen from yesterdays scissoring still (but I do have arthritis so nothing new and it'll go down).

I have been looking at clipper heads and wonder which would be best for a longish clip to even it out? the comb attachments have to long a lead up to me? as it'd be nice for the winter to keep his ankles down shrter anyway to avoid sucking up so much water.
Archie looks great, you did a great job scissoring him :clappurple:
Im not suprised your hands hurt thats a lot of fur you had to cut off, i take my hat off to you as i wouldnt have the patience :P

If you want a nice long cut with the clippers you have to spend the time dematting first as the clipper wont go through matts. It would certainly save you a lot of time, and it wouldnt hurt your hands

:cheer: :cheer: And have a good time in NZ :cheer: :cheer:
Bit of an update of sorts

Taking breaks between days to stop him hiding from me

The following are from this evening post more scissoring and using my cheapo wahl with the naff 1/2" plastic comb that keeps popping off to even out the parallel scissorong lines my finger cut seems to leave, I have ordered a 3f blade as I don't get on with the plastic guide thingy (I may ask for Oster or Andis clipper for my B'day as Wahl runs quite hot in the hand)

Legs will need a lot more tidying as do the ears , as he hates his legs being touched it's going to be a bit of brushing dematting then maybe a bit of scissoring, my knuckles have taken a few more wounds I almost cut one off - yes I did bleed a fair bit.

Anyhoo here's the progress so far of his pre kennel hair chop

Sunday is a day of rest for hime hair snipping wise although the brush and comb may play a small roll!
Oh he's sooo cute.
You've done a fantastic job! And he's such a good boy for putting up with that amount of trimming. Tiggy is 'over it' after 2 hours of brushing.
I love his tail! :D
He looks good. We always leave Summers tail until last and then sort of thin it out.....I did Summers feet last night whilst she was laying on the floor. I had to pin her in-between me and the sofa! :wag:
