Meal time, or crazy time?!

I was wondering if anyone else's sheepie does this...Each time we feed Barney, he goes crazy. Not for his food--he'll have a few bites, then he'll run around the kitchen like a madman and go to each gated entrance looking for the cats. He'll go back and forth to each gate over and over, then run, have a few bites of food...Basically making meal time crazy time.
And the funny thing is, usually the cats are still upstairs in the bedroom (at least for breakfast) so he is just making this game up all by himself. We tell him no, go eat, and he'll then go and have a few bites, and then off he goes again.
Any suggestions to make him forget about doing this?

I have no idea...lol... other than perhaps crating him to eat. I tried to get my girls on a feeding schedule when Frazzle was here by feeding each dog in their crates, however, they have free fed for so long it didn't make much difference. The one benefit it did have is that they know their food bowls go in the crates, so they are no longer dumping them all over the floor!
Have you tried using the techniques in The Dog Listener? My husband and I just started using the Gesture Eating technique a few weeks ago and it's made a huge difference. We were looking to cure different behavior (nipping, barking, Alpha stuff). Bailey was never this crazy during meals but he did have a tendency to eat, then walk away, then come back, then play with his food, then walk away... Not anymore! My husband usually feeds Bailey so it took me a while to get him to buy into the idea :D He gets out his big can of Plantars mixed nuts and has a few handfuls of nuts after he gets Bailey's bowl ready. When he finally puts the bowl down, Bailey is all about his dinner! He doesn't inhale it, but he does stay at it until he's done. I think he's convinced that if he leaves any Tim will eat it. You might want to give it a try.
Bailey's Mom--so is it making Bailey think that your husband is eating kibble too (with the nuts)? Hmmm...interesting.
It is just such chaotic behavior that it would be nice to have it stopped. He is definitely not agressive as far as we can tell during his feeding time and it is strange because the cats generally leave him alone and have never been in the kitchen with him during a meal, so I can't imagine it is a food protection thing.
I haven't looked at the Dog Whisperer yet, but I will think about it...
I swear, with Barney, it's one issue after another...
