George jumped up from laying down to bark at a delivery guy today and since he has paced the house. He yelps from time to time and there seems to be some pain in his back leg. He can't get up stairs and he can't lay down. I can't find anything on him although it is difficult as he doesn't want to be touched anywhere. I have an appointment at the vets in a couple of hours which can't come soon enough. I think he may have pulled a muscle or twisted his leg or something just wondered if anyone had come across something similar. Many thanks in advance for any tips or advice. |

could be a tear in the ACL. You vet will know right off by the way he "walks" & doing the shelf test. Hopefully it's only something minor. |
Good luck to George at your appt! |
He has pulled a muscle. I'm so relieved! He has anti inflammatory and pain killers for a week. Thank you for your thoughts. |
Hope it is just the muscle and not the ACL too! Poor guy. |

Vicki, how is George doing today? |
He's doing ok. He doesn't want to go for a walk but that is normal for him he's a couch potato at the best of times. He can manage the step into the garden now but we are keeping an eye on him incase the pain is being masked by the drugs! I think he is over the worst of it Thanks for asking. |
It's good it's just a pulled muscle and not a torn ACL. Pooh Bear tore his ACL and I can still hear his cry when it happened in my head. He couldn't walk on that leg after that until we got it repaired. It was really painful for him when it happened. |
Glad it is nothing serious. he probably would do best with some limited running and jumping. maybe leash walks only for a few weeks. My Bella pulled a muscle and the vet recommended six weeks of leash walking only...Not an easy task! Beware...pain killers can cause a little tummy issue as the anti inflames...I give a pepcid ac about an hour before the meds and give the meds with food to avoid tummy upset. Don't need any more problems! |
