This morning bloo woke me up hacking and coughing really loud, as if somethings stuck in his throat and he cant get it out. He has been coughing for 5minutes a timery 30 minutes he does it. He ks going to be sick (like hes heaving) but hes not jut hacking. He has eaten ham, a denti chew and a carrot this morning with ease which shows nothing is stuck, keeps doing it. He hasnt eaten anything he should have that im aware of. Could it be some kind of reaction to the antibiotics? I have noticed the past week hes been coughing now and then, because hes been pulling on his lead, ive been really gentle for that reason. Could caused some sort of damage to his neck? He sounds like an old man whicha chesty dry cough, its terrible and sccary Any ideas? The vets closed now for xmas and we cant afford emergency fees I cant get him to drink, im going to try give him something salty (not too salty though) to make him drink. He worrying me |

Sounds like kennel cough (bordatella virus) which most dogs recover from with no complications. Since he is on antibiotics hopefully that will prevent pneumonia from developing however it's possible the antibiotics are going after a completely different type of bacteria and that can allow other bacteria to flourish so unfortunately it sounds like another trip to the vet for you guys Hope he feels better soon. |
Poor Bloo, hope he settles soon. Kennel cough does sound horrible. One of our grand boxers had it once. Poor Shelby, her nose ran constantly and she hacked and hacked. I took her to the vet with "something stuck in her throat". Turns out to be kennel cough. She took antibiotics but that cough lasted for awhile. |

What she said. Also, the fact that he's recently been to the vet's ups the likelihood of kennel cough (exposure) It sounds horrible, but if he keeps eating and drinking and is otherwise fine (just don't let him run around, if he won't self limit, as that just makes the coughing worse) it should start to get better in a few days. Poor Bloo. Rough going lately. Good news is that if it is kennel cough odds are good he'll never get it again. KB |
We gave in and took him to out of hour because he was worse as the day went on. Apparently he has bronchitis! Hes been given stronger antibiotics and immflammatory medicine... poor guy ;( |
We took bloo to vet, turns out he has bronchitis! Bloo has got more antibiotics and anti imflammatory. Needs to g3t fluid off his lungs poor guy |
he had kennel cough last year... this is worse... |
keep him in as the wet and cold weather will not help |
i am P. He isnt himself, he is very tired and fed up with himself. We think its been caused by the cold wet weather, but vet said its zoonotic. Mom has had a bad cold so maybe hes caught it... either way im glad we took him, he doesnt like being squirted in the mouth with icky medicine lol |
Kissing his mum too much |
Get better soon Bloo |
No, odds are he didn't get it from his mum, but at the vets It's fairly common. Bronchitis is brought on by infectious agents though, most commonly one of the bordatella bacteria which falls under the umbrella of kennel cough. It's one of those rare but unfortunate potential complications you watch for. Though it can also be secondary to viruses such as canine parainflenza and distemper (less likely) A bit concerning that he's probably either had or been innoculated against most of the usual suspects. Watch his immune system for other signs that all is not well. Hope he feels better soon Kristine |
We are going to have to take it in turns to stay up with him at night. He keeps loosing his breath when he starts coughing...partly because hes lying down and standing up after. It sounds horrible Today hopefully will be the worst and hell start getting better from tomorrow /// Bloo said thanks for get well wishes xx Kristine hes been vaccinated against the paravirus etc and is up to date with boosters. Im hoping hes not going to be prone to this kind of thing :/ Ill try to keep his immune system strong, how do i do that? No running or long walks right? He needs to rest, the antibiotics will work b3tter when hes resting |
poor Bloo....try to keep him in an even temperature and get fluids down him. Summer will drink water if I put the tiniest drop of milk in, from a saucer for some reason. I hope he feels better soon, keep us posted Sam...xxx |
So sorry to hear about bloo's problems, hopefully he will get better soon. Rest is a good idea. |
On no, sick and at Christmas too. Poor everyone, I hope the stronger antibiotics are helping. |
