"At least she will not die in a cage in the hot Alabama sun like her sister. . . . The neighbors did the brave deed and dognapped her in the middle of the night, by cutting the fence. In my eyes they are heroes." Hot Alabama sun. Those three words just keep going through my mind. Those neighbors rock! Anybody up for a road trip to thank them? I'm only sort of kidding, those are some fantastic people. |

Hi,
My heart did flip flops when I read about Belle's sister dying due to those conditions. Thankfully Belle was saved by those wonderful neighbors! We have a site up hear called AABC - Animal Advocates of British Columbia and they expose many horrific conditions dogs live under. They pester the Humane Societies to do something about the dogs that are kept chained up 24/7. Humane Society policy mandates if a dog is given food, shelter, water than there is no cause for removal. The animal advocates have been warring with the Humane Society about chained dogs or dogs kept in small enclosures for the duration of their lives. The even have an "underground Network" of un-named mostly elderly woman...that sneak in the middle of the night and free these guys and rehabilitate them. The web site is full of stories of the rescue of these poor dogs. Stories of elderly woman scaling fences in the middle of the night with wire cutters. Now some may not agree with the methods and for myself who has been a law abiding citizen all my life I had a bit of mixed emotions at first. Until I started viewing the site..it's horrific so a word of warning for some of you. http://www.animaladvocates.com On a happier note there currently is a newstory, that made headlines in our area last year. In a nutshell a dog was deemed aggressive by the Humane Society and ordered put down by the director. The staff at the shelter didn't see one aggressive sign from this dog. His biggest supporter ironically was a member of staff whom has won several awards for being mauled by a Pit Bull the year before but hung on to the dog to not endanger anyone else. It was this young woman whom was this dogs biggest advocate and ironcially the dog she was trying to save was a Pit bull mix. Long story but her and another staff member dognapped the dog to save it's life. She was fired and threatened with legal action by the director. After hearing the story and viewing the dog. City Council fired the director!!! Dismantled the entire Humane Society structure...and re-established a new one...and made that woman the director!!! Yeah for the heroes whom go out of their way to save these guys!! Like those that saved Belles life!!! Floofdog it breaks my heart to know what poor Belle had to endure before coming into your loving home. No doubt she knows how loved and well cared for she is and will and does pay you back with unconditional love. Hugs to her and you. Marianne and the boys |
Jil,
How did you get Belle? Did you ever tell her story on the forum? I'd like to hear it. Jill |
Hi Again,
oops I identified Cheech as a Pitt mix when he's actually a Lab/ Rottie mix referring to the story I told above. Floofdog I too would love to hear more about how Belle arrived at your home. Please write about her as we'd all love to hear it! Marianne and the boys |
How terrible! I hate the way some animals are treated here. You'll see them chained up outside without a house - whether it's raining or sunny & really hot. It just breaks my heart. Jasper is chained up some, but it's only when we're outside with him & he's under a huge tree for shade (it's hardly very long though - a couple of hours).
When I was a pet groomer, we had animals come in that had chain link stuck into their skin - maggots around the area. It was so nasty and heartbreaking. Some matted up so bad that it left terrible sores on their bodies. We used to groom animals free for the Humane Society some weekends (we also did rescues with them and provided transportation to the vets for spays/neuters), and we just saw so much awful stuff. I'm in tears thinking about it right now. It's just like how I feel with kids - I don't see how anyone can harm an animal like that. They're helpless, defenseless (sometimes), and just look to you for their basic needs. |
It does make me cry to realize how badly mistreated some animals are. I am always grateful to hear stories like Belle's where people go out of their way, even risking personal safety, to help save an animal. God Bless them!! |
Not much of a road trip for me, I am bound to be fairly close. Are we going to thank the angels of rescue or beat up the owners ? I'm game for either. Thank goodness for the rescue angels, they knew Belle deserved to have a good life. I too, would love to hear about Belle's rescue. |
Jil,
How kind of those neighbors to help poor Belle! In that heat and with her heart, she probably wouldn't have lasted very long. She's so lucky to have found you, but I know you would say that you are the lucky one! Chris |

I think it's time to write the Saga of Bells Journey... |
Okay, okay.
I tried to write it out, but then I kept going back to prior threads and realized there's no way to recreate the mood. So, here's the story, of a lovely lady, who was looking for a sheepie of her own. I can't believe I just typed that. http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?p=9761#9761 http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?p=10117#10117 http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=15 ... sc&start=0 Then there's the story of her cardiology visit ( http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?p=11734#11734 ) and then she went into heat and then the latest - the mammary tumors. You folks have been there through all of this in the last nine months and that makes YOU heroes as far as we're concerned. Oh, Betsy, I haven't decided which is more important, thrashing the owners or praising the angels, LOL. Jil |
I can relate to "dognapping" when necessary. I once did it myself. There was a beautiful Irish setter that was kept on a chain in a back yard that was across the parking lot from my workplace. The kids there would tease the dog and put food and water just out of reach of the poor thing. They would throw sticks at it too. I couldn't stand watching all that. One day the dog jumped the chain link fence and was out in the hot sun there in the parking lot. There was barely enough chain that the dog didn't hang itself, thank God. One of my co-workers helped me kidnap that dog and we gave it to one of her friends who gave it a good home. I never thought twice about taking that dog and I would do it again in a heartbeat. |
Hi Again,
Reading Belle's story she must have thought she had died and gone to heaven living in your home. I read the urls you posted and can't believe I hadn't commented on anything...you know me...blabber mouth! Then I realized I had been offline from July to Oct or Nov so had missed the story of her rescue. I think things worked out the way they were supposed to...she was meant to be in your home. I hadn't seen that pic of Kayli before either...that's a beautiful photograph of her! That one is worth blowing up and framed. The photo of Belle too...aww you can tell she just oozes personality. The first I had seen of Kayli and Belle was the pics you posted some time back of the two of them in the car. Thanks for sharing her story with us. Deskwench>> gets pat on the back from me - just like Martha would say..it's a good thing. Marianne and the boys |
Everyboy in the car! We're going to beat up the owners!
Then we'll stop by and have a nice tea with the neigbors. We definitely need to give a great big thanks to those neighbors who rescued Belle. Who knows where she would be now without them? Woohoo to the lawbreakers, sometimes the ends do justify the means! |
Daisy and the boys say GOOD JOB!!!! |
