I was thinking he was so young , but from what I'm being told its happening at younger ages more often. Thank god it's just a pill he has to take to help him. Lisa Frankie and Mattie |

Autoimmune thyroiditis is unfortunately not unusual in OES as young as two (which is why you screen dogs before you breed them: it is inherited) and I know of at least one OES who was diagnosed even younger (a little over a year or something like that? Though that, I suspect, is a bit unusual) So, yeah, it's worth screening for at an early age with any kind of significant behavioral change. Glad you caught it and fingers crossed that being on meds makes him feel better soon. Kristine |
So glad you are getting to the bottom of this. I think you will see positive behavioral changes from the meds. Quincy was diagnosed at two years old, and Oscar was diagnosed at 4 years old. Laurie and Oscar |
Hope Frankie is starting to feel better. |
It shouldn't take long to see improvement with Frankie. I have one on thyroid meds. The good news is that they do solve the problem and they do not cost an arm and a leg (as compared to some meds). I myself am on thryoid meds. Yes, it is inherited. My Mom also needed them. Linda Z |
My boy was diagnosed at about 3 years old. He was so lazy, getting a bit nasty and sick all the time.He just didn't "look" like a happy dog. On the meds and he takes Soloxine twice a day, 1 and 1/12 tab, He is a totally different dog! Happy again, and his old sweet self. When he started taking them he had to get recheked I think after three weeks to make sure the dosage was correct and they did tweek the dosage but he's been fine since - and he is now 6 years old. The pills are small and fairly inexpensive so its an easy fix. Hope Frankie feels better soon. |
