I want a puppy... |
You'd need a wider door.......... |
You would need a bigger christmas tree!!!! Or maybe several new larger trees??? Your dogs are lovely - I so want an OES dog christmas decoration for the tree. I am wondering how Sam will get on in his new home? Mable is getting bigger and Bailey is enormous! I went to lift him up today and he has grown sooooo much in a few days. Little Bailey is starting to show his charactor. He actually flicks his empty bowl when he is hungry and today I cought him with his foot in the bowl skidding it accross the Laundry room floor! He is a really nice boy. Oes |
Baba wrote: I want a puppy... You would also need a larger sofa with many, many more silk pillows A great idea to start a puppy thread, so many little ones here right now. We had a similar thread when Jaxson, Dahlia and Charm were little. It was so helpful in so many ways. |
David, you have a puppy....just a really big, hairy puppy! That's what I keep telling myself, anyway..... |
Awwwwww puppies! |
I'm anxiously awaiting my cuddly puppy! He's not even been born yet. This wait is going to seem like forever! The litter is due in Jan. Our breeder is going to send me pics and a video each week so I can watch him grow while we wait. Can't wait to share them! Love seeing everyone's pics! They are so cute! |
Ohhhhhhhhhh poor you waiting sooooo long!!!!! I had no idea they were not even born yet? I thought you were looking a boy pup but I guess Sam works for both. It would be a shame if you got your heart set and then no boys or no girls appeared? January isn't that long to wait! What date are the darlings due?? Oh you have to share all - if you get vidio can you upload them so we can all see. I am very interested in this stage of puppy life because I always had older rescues before. Our little monster ( I mean our - um errrrr - beautiful inocent little Bailey!) Was 12 weeks when we got him and he came from miles away so we didn't get to see his mom or siblings in their home at the really early stages. It would be lovely for us all to see that with Sam as I am sure many folk here are like me and just get Pup age 8 weeks + This is our Pup at 8 weeks and he seems enormous now compaired to a month ago! Thanks for the post of encouragement. - Yeah I know more pillows - to replace all the shredded ones! "Memo to self" - Dear Santa - 200 silk pillows required for one little BAILEY! gurrrrrrrr ! Oes |
We put a deposit with her for a boy. We are second in line. Hopefully our little fellow will be in this litter. If not, she has another litter coming along after that. |
Great idea oes. Mabel and I would like to join in. Eleven weeks old already. Here is the Mabel Monster. She has been pretty good lately. Apart from her "Crazy Hour" every evening. Dont know why she does it. She goes nuts. Jumping up, biting, snappping at us and hanging on to clothing etc. Strange though when she does this sort of thing at any other time a stern NO will work just fine but she hears nothing in that "Crazy Hour" lol. And the last couple of nights she has cried way longer than usual going into her crate. She has been sleeping all night since day one but now she decides she doesn't like going to bed. |
Oes. Bailey is just the cutest. he is so fluffy. I haven't been on here for a few days so I better go catch up on some reading and see what he has been up to lol. |
I feel for you with the bedtime drama. I am lucky in that I have Giz to keep Bailey company so he isn;t on his own. Lately though he has been a bit rough on the Giz and I worry he will hurt him. He has a bit of tail envy going on in that His tail is docked very close. GIz has a little bit of a stump left and Bailey "wants it" - he keeps biting Giz on the bum and then when they are called in from the yard Giz tries to get to the back door to get in and he is practically dragging this oversized pup behind him! Bailey is firmly "fixed" by the teeth onto Giz by the stump of his tail. It is like an Elephant! Anyhow the little darlings are for the VET in the morning - Bailey still needs his last two jabs before I can take him out. He is 14 weeks old this Saterday. So there is about three weeks between them if your girl is only 11 weeks now. She is a week younger than Bailey was when we got him. He has grown a lot in the last two weeks and is now bigger than Giz! Maybe if you had quiet time before bed, you know a winding down time not loads of reaction to the play antics? That might be better and then have more intensive play earlier in the day instead to tire her out. Oes |
So cute! For the first time in years, I have puppy fever again. Hubby says absolutely not...one is enough. |
Quiet time before bed won't do it. Its a puppy thing. This was discussed on here awhile back. I forgot what the general consensus was, I think it was called frap or something along those lines. You're done for the day and want to go to bed and the puppy is ready to PARTY. I remember many a night dragging the little bugger out for a late night walk...or suffer for it. I've always called it the sheepie 500. |
Lol - My little monster always has a funny half hour before bedtime. Today we were at the Vet and Gizmo and Bailey have slept virtually constantly since we got home! They are dun in. I bet that will change come 11 pm! Oes |
Aaw poor babies lol. Well Mabel monster was wild last night. She only snoozed briefly early in the evening after playing outside for a bit. Then she was biting all night. We were finding it hard to be consistant when she has the energy to go on so long. She gets so determined that a toy is not what she wants. Its flesh lol. And she no longer listens to NO. So she was getting lots of time outs. We just put her in the kitchen and close the door. We took her out on the leash for a play outside again to tire her out but when we come back in she is only good for 5 minutes then she is at it again. Not sure whether to use her crate for time outs. She doesn't love it in there and i dont want her to hate it but i dont think she is understsnding what we are doing now. Any ideas on this one? The thing is she is so good most of the time. We just had our morning walk. On leash just once round the block and she is such a good girl. Walks really well. She sort of whimpers all the way round but i'm not sure if it is the excitement or she is just a vocal girl. She doesn't seem scared at all. Then we come home have a gentle play then she is snoring under the table. This is not the same puppy that was here last night lol. |
I am really pleased that Bailey did really well at the Vet Friday. Now he has all his jabs finally up to date I can take the wee fellow out and start lead training! The vet said he was a great pup - I am thinking on keeping him in tact and putting him to stud when he is older if he remains placid. OES |

Do try the shaker. - the bottle with dried beans in - you really have to stop the biting!!!!!!! You must do it for her sake. I guess I am an old style mom and I don't go in for all this time out stuff modern mothers do. I do give Bailey a tap on the nose if he does something really bad news like biting! The only Dog I ever really chastised hard like that was Murphy. Murphy was a hard boy to care for and he had major food aggression to the point that if you even went into the same room while he was eating he would go for you. - However before he died I was able to put my hand into his bowl, inside his mouth, remove his bowl when I wanted and put more food treats into it. It was very hard work. I never did manage that when he had a bone so we simply stopped giving him bones as emotionally he couldn't cope with one. I never was an advocate of actually smaking a dog hard. It was always detestable to me. But I always was aware of the danger of a big dog getting out of hand and aggressive especially with a child about. Then I watched a thing on huskys and a girl was doing the dogs for one of the pole teams and she actually took the whip to the lead dog - I was a bit shocked until she explained how dangerious they were and that they needed to KNOW she was the boss as they could easily be very dangerous. When Murphy bit - I knew if I didn't do something he would end up being put to sleep. I had watched a lovely boxer dog that was rescued by the Dog pound and he went through all their care and vet bills and everything and then they did the food aggression test and he went berserk and madly savaged the plastic hand. (That was the way Murph was!) They put the dog to sleep immediately. (You simply cannot have that risk especially around kids!) I did not want to lose my Murph like that so when he bit I took the lead and welted his rear end! He never ever bit again! I can tell you it hurt me a heck of a lot more than it hurt him. But I never regreted it ever because after that he saw me as Boss lady and he started to obey and we never looked back. I am not certainly not telling you to do that to a pup - Murphy was a very very big boy and extremely volatile when I got him. But you have to prevent little Mable thinking she can bite and get away with it. There are few folk who would work with an aggressive dog and it is very difficult to pull them back from the edge. They really do get a red eye on and cannot switch it off!!!!!!! A tap on the nose with a sharp NO> or the shaker to enforce what you say! If she is not responding to you it is because she is not recognising you as leader of the pack. She needs you to lead from the front. She needs Boundries to feel safe and secure inside. She needs tough love sometimes. Murph was a really hard boy to turn round he really was but the difficult ones alway seem to wangle their way into your heart more than any others. Even now I feel the tears thinking of him. I wonder sometimes if he was grateful of that sore rear end he got that day? He ended up being a wonderful gentle giant. I never let Bailey nip ever!!!!!!! Not even as a game. I miss my Murph sooo very much - feel sometimes when I feel bonded with Bailey that I am betraying his memory in a sence. Oes - yeap he turned out ok in the end that big old bear. With the evil blue eye! |
Oh , I can't really read these posts and look at the baby sheepies! I want one again! Mine are now 6 and four years...But sheepie pups are the cutest. Like little stuffed animals! Oh, yes, I forgot staying up all night, walks at midnight and then again at 4 or 5 am...biting at my pants leg...its been quite a few years since then. Believe me, what you are complaining about now you will miss when they get older! |
Mabel could be known as the Masked Avenger! |
mabelsmum wrote: Great idea oes. Mabel and I would like to join in. Eleven weeks old already. Here is the Mabel Monster. Gulp *sneaks out of forum with Mabel and Bailey before anybody notices* |
She is sooo beautiful but do try to get a grip with the biting - I know it is hard but the folk that had Murphy obviously didn;t bother to teach him it was wrong and it can escalate if not discouraged. You have to be mindful that these dogs get very large indeed and you simply cannot aford to have a dominant dog that size! It is so not good. If mable tries to go through a door before you make her "sit" and wait! MAke her see she is not the important one. Give her treats only when she does something you want in return. Only feed her after you have been fed. These dogs also use their bodies to bully - it is part of the herding instint. So do likewise. It is what she knows. I push my knees forward gently ( Not rough as remember the size of these little guys.) Put your knees forward and push back against her. Do this if she jumps up at you too and turn to the side say a firm NOOO! Remember she is small and can;t hurt you but she can sure topple a toddler in the street! I know it is hard work to get these basics. But these little ones need these boundries in place before they get big bad and out of control! You really don;t want the big bad issues I had with Murph to deal with. I am sooo missing murph cried buckets today! I don;t think I will ever get used to this place without my old friend. Even though Bailey is here it's not like it was and never will again be. OES |
Aaw I really feel for you oes. It is loosing a member of your family. It takes time. And you have got little Bailey to keep you busy. Mabel is The Masked Avenger lol. The Masked Avenger is still as cheeky as. But we are getting somewhere. Oes i agree time outs are not working. So the last couple of days we have been just stopping play, standing up and turning our backs on her. Now we were trying this a few weeks back and she wasn't getting it but she seems to be noticing it now. I think maybe she was too little then. She is only behaving loke this in that crazy hour before bed. The rest of the day she is a very good girl. She always waits for me to go through a door first. Always has since day one. She sits and stays like a champ. She plays fetch and always comes back. And we have no accidents in the house for over a week. But i'm sure we are not done with that just yet So I probably have sounded more exasperated than i meant to. She is no angel but we are doing pretty good overall. |

She is just a big bundle of cuteness |
Ok DH did this photo shot and noticed I have not got it in this thread so I will post it again for all those who might not have seen it! Happy christmas from Bailey. I like the masked avenger that is really cool!! Bailey is a little darling but has his moments. I am struggling right now - because he goes wee wee outide fine then he comes in and promptly poos on the darn floor!!!!! Aghh!!!!!!!! I think you are right about the maturity making a big difference in the way they understand what you want. Honestly BAiley was a really stupid Dog bot when he came but is slowely improving! lol I can get him to sit and put up his paw to say thanks. He sometimes tries to push through doors but we are getting there. He is learning "back up." I can get him to go in reverse now! lol He does sit and wait and come on comand, In the house but not outside! UGH! He is a love though. Last night DH opened the doggy door and he came galloping in and launched himself onto my lap! Sooo darn cute ( Wont be so cute when he is grown up but I know he will still want to do that! As Murph did!!! = squished owner!) I am sooo missing my Murph - Despite having the pup I still burst into tears for him regularly. I don;t think I will ever come to terms with the loss. Murph and I were very close and I have never been that close to any other dog. I think it was due to all the work I had to put in to him to get him to be a "normal" good and safe companion dog. He had lots of emotional issues and was a bit nurotic! Poor chap would pee himmself and cry his way through puppy classes it was so embarrassing! He was the biggest pup there at 18 months! I have wonderful memories of my Murph and he will always be close to my heart. I miss him more everyday and when Bailey does something Murph like DH and I smile at eachouther and say he is a mini Murph! I know he wont ever be Murph but just having him do odd things Murph did like steeling cat food from the fridge is kind of nice! I always told Murph off for sticking his tongue into the open can of cat food cause I was scared he would cut it on the edge. Now I do the same with Bailey! It is getting to be "normal" in the house again. But I can honestly say my heart is broken over my Murph, the Murphalator was indeed a charactor I will never forget. Oes |

Oesdog wrote: Great news for you - you wont be that far behind Mable and Bailey in the end after all. Actually, we aren't getting a puppy from that breeder. I found a very unflattering thread about her here on the forum. At least I found out before we brought home a puppy with health and behavior problems. We are on the list for a litter from an awesome breeder now. She's here on the forum and we are looking forward to having a puppy from a reputable breeder. The litter is due around the beginning of April, so our little guy will be home in early June. Good things come to those who wait, right? |
New pics of Bailey... He is massive already! Sorry I have not posted in a bit - this time of year tends to be a bit manic! Oes |
