My father had it done years ago and he didn't seem to suffer any ill effects from it. Nor do I remember him complaining of any pain. |
it is really dry here too....what seems to help me is taking a qtip with some vasoline on it and swabbing high up in the nasal cavity....it sounds gross but it really does help....i use vicks vapor rub when im sick..... |
I use generic Neosporin in my nostrils several times a day but my nose still bleeds. It's gross. |

As a rugby player i know a lot of people who have had this done. The first few weeks you look like a panda and sore but in the long run its worth having done. Just be careful in the first 6months not to knock it and if you get blood comming out just cut up a tampon and put it up the offending side of the nose |
I've had it done before. I don't remember any pain, but burning skin stinks. I then had to have Neosporin stuffed up my nose for 3 days. It did help. Consider getting a saline nose spray and using it every 1-2 hours as a preventive. |
I had mine cauterized when I was just a kid...about 10, so far back I don't really remember much about it. Didn't have any more problems until about a year and a half ago. And these were not small, but real gushers that sometimes took up to and hour to get stopped. Also constantly had the blood when I blew my nose. The last one sent me to the ER, but it was right after my hip surgery and I was on major blood thinners at the time. Now I do all the things suggested...Darcy's vasoline, I'm completely sold. I use it before bed and when I get up. Also use saline a few times a day and I sleep with a small humidifier next to my bed and voila...no more nosebleeds! The doc told me as we age (I'm beginning to hate that statement ) your blood vessels get thinner. Seems like everything gets thinner except your waistline! |
We would get patients in the hospital through ER with nose bleeds. The ENT's treat it with Afrin (or the generic) nasal spray. One of the ingredients helps close up and stop the bleed. I've taken care of the people - it honestly works really well. My son is a nose bleeder - since childhood. We used vaseline in the nostrils here too - as a preventative. Having the Afrin on hand for a bleed is the back-up plan. Wish I would have known about it when he was a kid. |
I'm also a desert dweller, ditto above advice: vasoline and humidifier in your bedroom and another where you hang out in the house. I also use alot of aquaphor (super thick vasoline) for my nails, lips, heels, hands....wind chapped skin. Saline washes seemed to dry my nose a bit...the salt?...but great for colds! Washes out the boogers for a bit.....(sorry.) |
