I don't know of any personally, but we do have lots of members in CT. One thing you might try is contacting Grannie Annie at NEOESR and ask her if she has a recommendation for you. Contacts here: http://www.oes.org/html/oes_rescue.shtml |
hi, my point of view is that you have to learn it to be less afraid. How? using rewards and authority. It is a long job but i's not the few visit to groomer that will make it stressless! Don't forget that it will be groom very often during it's lifetime! So make this moment a pleasur time for him! It must definitively stay a fabulous moment between the dog and its owner. Good luck and patience |

Good luck and patience I agree I use food treats IE:cheese/little bits of cooked sasuage/ try for a fews mins a day building the time up , also try putting 1/2 teaspoon of oil on there food, Oil IE:sunflower/olive oil. this helps with oil from the inside of body though the skin to there fur and helps to stop the matts , coat detangler can help too "Coat Handler" is good , a good brush is needed too ,if matt is too bad try cutting though it hope this helps |
Archie actively hates his legs being groomed at all, it is a challenge, unless you can afford a professional groom every week that is. I'd suggest a daily ritual of sitting calm with the dog talking in a calm manner getting him more and more used to the presence of the grooming tools and trying to do even just small bits each day maybe several times a day, I have to control myself and when Archie snaps or mouths my arm with his teeth as a warning I have to respond in a calm manner, yes it is difficult but sometimes after say 4 hours he'll finally relax and snooze while I brush him - yes I am being serious he has a will he just has to understand that my will is greater than his and I have to do it in a none confrontational way. Normally I can't give him all the time i'd love to and I have to be crafty in trapping him in the lounge (hot buttered toast is to much to resist!) where I brush him, otherwise he'll hide in his cage. Day after day it is a challenge but it is worth it, plus he seems to go on his walk afterwards with an air of "look at me!" Don't think I haven't been tempted to hog tie him at times after getting raked across the face by his claws, I sort of think "I guess he didn't like that then!" I do my best to get him to trust me after five years he hasn't given in yet! Silly thing is when I get his table out he'll put his front legs on it ready to get on, one confused hound. |
Archie, you're so patient! That the only way with dog. They are more stubborn than us |
