Oh, Balls!!

Hello, i havent been here for a while. My 5 1/2 month old OES pup - Dudley has been an absolute pleasure to train and has been very receptive to it too, however recently he play bites with me (female) and never play bites with my fiance.. This morning, when i came down to let him out i noticed that when he was laid on his back, that his testicals and penis have grown quite a bit and seems very prominant and firm, however moments later his testicals are no where to be seen!!

Is this normal, is he being testing with me because he is getting an incoming batch of hormones and are his disappearing testicals going to reappear!?

Thank you for your help!

He's a bit too young for a hormone surge and if his testicles are still disappearing...? Still just a baby.

That's not apparently that unusual even in slightly older puppies btw. There have been six month old or so puppy dogs whom, when examined in the show ring (they have to have two testicles), judge could only find one or perhaps none 8O Nice judges will let you go around and see if that will relax puppy enough to drop them back down (they can yo-yo for many months and stress or insecurity or..? can make them retract them) . Some times yes, some times no. But they usually do come down as soon as you leave the ring, I'm told

Wait till he's nice and relaxed and check him again. They can get stuck up there, so you kind of want them to stay down...they should be back down by now.

The chewing on is more a teething problem. Some of his big boy teeth are probably still be coming in. For some reason he feels OK using you as a chew toy, but not your fiancee. Something to think about... :lmt:

Try redirecting him to acceptable chew toys.

Realize the penis can become enlarged when there is pressure on the prostate...full bladder or waste moving in colon. Nothing is static inside a dog, things are always moving about, just like inside us.

Indeed, Yo-Yoing testicles is normal for awhile. When the testicles descend and stay, having just one is cause for concern and can lead to major problems. But don't go feeling around there constantly, let Nature take it's course, check once a day or even less often.
Sounds to me that maybe he had to pee.
Um, if you are looking at his penis, was it two round lumps near the base?
That would be the bulbus glandis, and not his testes at all.
Male dogs swell there with male excitement, just regular excitement, or if they need to pee (which I'm guessing what Ron was tactfully alluding to) ;)

It was first thing in the AM before he had been let out... and it disappeared. Having had this issue myself (*cough* with the dog *cough*) I'm not exactly Sherlock Holmes over here! LOL

 yeah....
Thank you all. Yes the swelling was around the base - and it was before i let him out for a morning wee! That would explain what i saw.

Thanks for your help!
