Our puppy just turned 1 year old. Oh my, so fast.... By 9-10 month nipping almost disappeared to cases when she wanted to go out to potty, or was getting bored. Walking on the leash improved and became reasonable. We are doing our forth dog obedience class (positive reinforcement), once a week we are taking Frothy to doggy care to play with other dogs, no signs of aggression, slight dominance may be, not much. Frothy almost accepted rules, knows basic commands, we are working on stay now, and so on, so on, so on. Life is good. But!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! About a month ago IT STARTED. She started barking on bikes and joggers, pulling like crazy on cars (funny, if street is quiet and there is single care, she would pull, jump towards it, if street is busy, she can sit calmly for long time waiting for "go" signal). We are walking Frothy 2x1hr a day, once in the morning to school with our daughter, so she would be around kids and people. Beautiful. (well, it was beautiful), second time in the night. She is calmer when it's dark, not that brave, so almost no pulling. But in the morning..................... ouch!!!! Also, she started chewing on the leash (indestructible lupine is destroyed already). She did it around 7-8 month, then stopped. Now again. Jumping on us, pulling sleeves, playing tag with leash, chewing........... Trainer is saying we should distract with treats, calming her down, talking to her when cars, dogs, people (oh, especially with strollers) coming. BUT Frothy doesn't see or hear anything, when seeing dog or jogger!!!! She is pulling there, like there is no tomorrow. Good thing that we do not any aggression, all she want's is to play. When they (people, dogs) are stopping and approaching Frothy is happy to communicate, nice and friendly. And she started nipping like crazy at home. Ehhhhhh....what's up, Doc? So... just tell me it will go away with consistency. It's quite difficult to handle abrupt pulling. Is it stage of growing or something else? Any recipes? Thank you so much! Bonus: |

Just found this topic: http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=38985 It tells me, that we are not alone. We used prone collar on sheeppie we had before. We were hoping that we could do without one with this cutie. We'll see. But puppy behavior came back in a package. Last night, actually, disobeying and nipping went to quite high point, just like it was at 4-6mo What is the politics here? Confine if too rough? Distract with toy? But she is ready to play 24/7 |
