We tried to limit our days to 6-7 hours with stops every 2 hours though the last leg into Boise was 10, most of which was in snowstorms in Utah with no stops for almost 5 hours. We have kept to the dogs schedule for feeding and exercised every morning and evening. I think a grandson shared some Halloween candy with Winston the night we got here because we woke to diarrhea the first morning in our son's house. Winston was almost as troubled by it as we were. The guys are doing great. We spent a couple nights in Moab, Utah on the way up and hiked in the Canyonlands a little; We live at about 800' and Moab is at about 7,000' so a couple mile walk up a canyon trail kicked everyone's butt, especially the boys' but they loved it! It took 5 days to get here and it will be the same going home. We are hitting Park City, Utah and Santa Fe on the way home. Fresh bath and ready to hit the road: Walking in an Albuquerque park: Startiing the Utah Canyonland hike: Getting a drink in a mountain stream The aftermath of a couple mile hike at 7,000': |

The dogs look so good and you can tell they are just zonked out in the last pic. The pictures are beautiful and hopefully the diarrhea has passed!!! I love traveling with the dogs and I think Yuki enjoyed every part of her trip from Texas to Alaska. ...esp since mommy wasn't there to brush her or get her eye boogers. |
What an awesome trip!! I am so jealous More pictures, more pictures. |
You picked a good park in Albuquerque, very few have such mature trees. Happy travels! Our sheepdogs have all be good roadies. |
so jelous looks like fun for all |
Awesome trip! I need to do a southwest trip one year with the motorhome before it gets hot. Teddy would love that. Cindy |
I highly recommend including Moab, Utah in your itinerary. It's a little difficult to get to (have to drive a long way around mountains) but the sights along the drive are worth it. Taos, NM is another great destination but be cautious, a couple of the routes would not be motor home friendly, narrow and winding. We will drive to Boise, ID several times a year in the future, one route will be thru Moab the other thru Denver. The trip home this week includes a couple days in Santa Fe. It is supposed to be very dog friendly so I will post some pictures this weekend. We get there tomorrow. |
Yes, Moab is great! I was there on a trip back in 1992. I've not been to New Mexico yet so that is a must soon. I love the west. Enjoy the rest of your trip! Cindy |
Your pictures are beautiful. It looks like everyone is having a great time. One year, when Violet and China were young, we drove from Florida to Michigan and they did very well. I hope to take them on long trips again soon. |
I believe we have been to Moab. Many years ago and from what I remember it was beautiful. I don't have good travelers. They get drugged. |
Our guys are doing even better than we hoped. In the last 11 days we have driven over 2800 miles, stayed in 6 hotels and my son's house. We have tried to keep the travel days down to 6 hours though had one at over 10. They were a little fidgety in the first couple hotels but do very well in them now. They may not bark at any outside noises when we get home! Winston is usually the first one to let us know he needs a pee break though we try to stop every 2 hours or so which is for us almost as much as them. We are about 600 miles from home and will drive on home tomorrow. There are a lot do rest stops on the route so everyone will be happy. |
3,332 miles, 12 days, 7 nights in 6 different hotels, 4 nights in our son's house and we're finally home! The guys were more thrilled than we were to be home; they jumped and rubbed and barked. I'm sure they thought they would never see home again! We had a great time and can't wait for the next adventure! |
That was a big trip!!! Glad the boys did well.... and I would bum a ride on that trip |
Sounds like a wonderful trip!! |
