Today is Mulligan's 10th birthday.
 We were honored to be chosen to be owned by such a beautiful soul such as Mulligan just a little over 8 years ago by Grannie Annie of New England Old English Sheepdog Rescue. He was a frisky wriggly boy of energy who welcomed himself to our house by finding the nearest toilet bowl and lifting the lid and having a nice drink of it. He drank so much water and was constantly hitting the toilets for more. He had a peeing in the house problem -- really just a leaking when excited problem -- and we suspect that because of this his water had been rationed. We couldn't put down water; he scarfed up as much as he could. We had to take up the water when we believed he had enough... then put it down and give him a little later and and so on... eventually he got it that there's be enough water and that problem was solved. However he leaked every time he got excited. We learned to try very hard not to excite him when we got home, and the way to do that was not to greet him, but to command him to go and get his leash which distracted him from his excitement and allowed us to get him out the door to pee before he sprayed everything in sight. He was such a hyper dog and such a puller! I remember trying to get a picture of him with my dad and Joan and he just couldn't sit still long enough to snap the shutter. He was such a puller and so excited to see other dogs that we were forced to use the prong collar for everyone's safety. Although he never pulls on the prong collar, we STILL have to use it, because if he realizes it's not on he can still pull us down the street or worse when he sees another dog. And when he sees another dog? Fuggheddaboutit! He leaps in place with little lunges up and down and backwards while barking and yelping... he loves other dogs. And when he sees another human? Fuggheddaboutit! He leaps in place with little lunges up and down and backwards while barking and yelping... he loves other humans. His house peeing is stopped and his excitement peeing is 99.9 percent stopped, and he's just becoming a sweet gentleman with some aches and pains and he's just a love bunny curling up all night in bed with Joan. It's been a great 8 years, and I'm looking forward to what is next. Thanks Mully! Thanks Joan! Thanks Grannie Annie! |

| Mulligan is enjoying a birthday weekend! He got some extra food treats and several rounds of the birthday song and extra pats from lots of neighbors. He got a new indestructible Nylabone and there's more to come. His birthday makes us feel so much better! |
