I think the way they are doing this is pretty awful, and could leave the poor dogs confused and anxious . I dont, however think the basic concept is bad... Why not have a system of "rented" time with a dog *and* the dogs owner? You could meet at a dog park go for a walk on trail or sit in a dog friendly venue over a cup of coffee, and the lonely person would get some dog-time while traveling or whatever...without subjecting the dog to constant change. I have tourists who visit my booth at dog-friendly art-show venues all the time for exactly that reason . |
Laurel, I like your idea. With two dogs, I could double the fee! Vance |
In years past we have had single male friends ask to borrow our OES because they are "chick magnets." No one ever followed up and I doubt we would have allowed it. |
UGH! I think this is a terrible idea. You want companionship? Go to a local pet shelter and donate your time walking the dogs there. Laurel, I like your idea much better. Laurie and Oscar |

I'm not sure I mind a well treated home pet being rented out for an afternoon by the owner, but envisioning it on a commercial scale with crating in off hours and things like that it becomes much more problematic for me. Just FYI this issue was from about 5 or 6 years ago I think. |
Hmm... Why not just volunteer to walk dogs at a shelter? That's free! Why would anyone pay to borrow a dog when there are tons just waiting for someone to give them a little love? |
This idea was on our local tv news a few years ago. I thought it was a bad idea then and I still do. I actually thought it never went anywhere since I never saw anything about it since. Dogs are NOT meant to be rented out like a lawn mower or piece of equipment. I agree. You want companinship, volunteer at the local shelter to be a dog walker. |
