Tiny-brained Oscar has decided that his new favorite place to poop is on the side of a steep hill, as he is walking down it. He's walking in a tripod formation, and pooping, and the poop is rolling, and I'm trying to keep him from stepping in it. Silver lining? His poop is solid enough to roll!!! LOL Piper walks and poops too, she walks in a circle and often ends up stepping in it.... |
always figured you don't have time to stand still when you're a professional sheep herder. |
lola backs into hers.... |
We had poop roll downhill last week. It is an unexpected and funny sight Never thought I'd be sharing the written words though What a tight family we are here |
We met some people at the dog park that were making fun of how Leonard does his business (while walking in a circle). They said they had a sheepdog years ago who did the same thing. I had never noticed before; too busy praising him for his impressive puppy self control and house training prowess. (People in the park must think I'm weird as I make a HUGE deal out of Leonard's successful evacuations). I love my dogs so much poop and all. |
Tiggy walks and poops too. Fortunately her circle is large enough that she's done before she gets around to stepping in it and Melbourne is a very flat city so we haven't had the 'rolling down hill' problem. |
So glad to hear that Oscar is not alone!!! Laurie and Oscar |
Every Sheepdog that has owned me has walked and pooped, occasionally in a circle. Whenever I take Oliver to the dog park, he walkes the perimiter in the poop position. Of course I follow, but in all the area one piece. URGGGGGGGGG!! |
We call the dogs "the poop sprinklers". Both of my girls do the walk in a circle and poop thing. They rarely step in it, but it has happened before, lol. |
Hm. I have a few who can, and a handful who usually or almost invariably do, poop while standing still and it's much appreciated. Others who do the poop walk, though not generally in circles, but rather in straightish lines, and more typically if they're having some kind of elimination issue. I think the walking helps move things along? They are more likely to do the walk when I'm standing behind them with the pooper scooper on the ready (extra points if the poop goes right in the scooper ) Some of them, most of them? really hate that. Not sure why? I mean, they stand and stare at ME when I'M in the bathroom, so I can't believe they're particularly shy? Kristine |
Jake was a hill pooper and it definitely rolled downhill! Especially with lots of bran in his diet making it nice and hard and dry... I was a softball 1st baseman at the time and got lots of ground ball practice! |

a new sport is born. "scoopoopering" two divisions, with and without tails. |

Violet does the same thing. I just thought she was odd. "scoopoopering" |

No thanks Poop catching skills challenged enough as it is. Kristine |
Hmmm, Chewie poops with a slight shuffle forward - mostly straight. Bond poops mostly still, but does do a pivoting move if it is not a quick poop. Guess I was watching more than I knew! For the others - mostly in one place - but the bassets have usually done the forward shuffle too - Simon did, and Harley does. And we are flat, so no rolling happening out on the prairie! |

Guess I was watching more than I knew! Good grief, it's genetic! Sybil is mostly still, Mace may do a slight forward if it doesn't come quick enough and the little girls are exactly like Bond. I blame Becket Now, Belle, Belle traveled. She couldn't stand the thought of being anywhere near poop - her own or anyone elses. At trials I'd have to walk her to the back 40 to find a "clean" area for her, and as soon as she started she'd move forward as much as she could. Some times I'd be picking up after her over a 25 foot stretch. And then I'd have to get rid of the bag as fast as possible as she would be just horrifed that the offending matter was still somehow with us, even in baggy form. Good grief, the drama! KB |
Only on this forum can a discussion about poop go two pages. This place is awesome! Laurie and Oscar |
Yes, it's a really poopy place. |
yes, it's a great poopy place , but scooping or scoopoopering is far better than slinging. sometimes i wonder if the lessons of sheepies are sometimes forgotten by some. |

This is just a thought though: - However if you wrote a message to the world, smt like this: "I am here, this is me me, my age is ......ready for this and that...etc" - How would you like if I came along and scooped it away, and nobody could read it.....? It didn't even reach the ground so that sombody could smell=read what had been there once even though it had been taken away? Doesn't suprise me that the sheepie don't like that scooppoopering when you're so good at it that the poop doedn't even reach the ground for a few seconds. |
By the way....I am happy as far as I don't step in it...... |

So I'm interferring with their freedom of expression? Is there a canine consitution that protects this right? Never mind. How to put this? Too bad! Exactly for the reason you note: hate walking in the yard in the dark and getting that squishy feeling under my foot <gag, cack!> And, unfortunately, I'm not always successful at getting it picked up before it hits the ground; it's pretty impossible when you have a group poop going on. Haven't yet figured out how to clone myself Now, your point may just explain why Luna insists on pooping under some trees with low branches, where I have a hard time following Kristine |
Where else but here can we all have an entire discussion about our dog's poop? I love this place! |
next up is multi-scoopoopering possible??? |
