Today, (Bark, Bark, Bark, Bark) I look out the window and there is the kitten sitting on the steps. It is indeed quite young. It jumped under the porch which I would do too if this big old english sheepdog was staring at me and barking! So..... what do I do? Do we feed it? Do I call a shelter? Do I try and trap it? I haven't seen a mom around? Honestly, I am allergic to cats so I don't have any experience w/ them---but, I am super compassionate about all creatures and therefore I am concerned about the kitten's well-being. Fortunately, it isn't super cold yet at night---but, that will come soon enough. Anyone? |

if it is from a ferral cat definitely try to catch it so it can be taken in, domesticated and "fixed". our local vet takes in these kittens and then adopts them out and our local ASPCA also does this. I would try and bait it with food and then crate him up in a pet carrierer. They make cardboard ones. give a heads up to your local ASPCA so they are ready to take him once caught given your allergies and all. Our local ASPCA will even take in captured ferral cats for spay and neuter and then they are "given/released" typically to local farms since the adults typically can't be domesticated enough for placement into a regular home situation. |
If it was a very small kitten, I'd probably take it to a shelter or find a neighbor who wants it ...but most likely keep it. Any other cat, I'd leave it alone. |
So...... the saga continues..... I put some food and water out to feed the little kitten..... and..... Then, I looked and there were 2 little kittens! I remembered a few days ago that I had seen a cat going under our shed and then later on in the woods while walking Dahlia! I think that must have been MOM! I left a voicemail for my vet who is also a family friend to get her input. I just don't want to remove them while they are still with mom. I just haven't seen her since I was in the woods a few days ago, but, that doesn't mean she isn't here and comes at night?!? BTW, I am in LOVE! Too bad that I am allergic! |
I would keep putting food and water out. if mom is ferral it will keep her coming back with kittens until they are old enough to take them and get them to the vets. on the off chance that someone "dropped her off" which happens alot around me you may be able to grab mom and kittens and take them to the vets. good luck. |
Poor little kitties. Only put food and water out if you plan to catch them and have them speyed. Otherwise in a very short space of time you will have a whole bunch of cute little kittens. |
I say you enjoy having some kitties who kill everything around your house ...and in return, they just expect some cat food Hopefully the vet has a good solution. |
