haha technical word is discharge. Maybe water got in his ears. I think it could be a scratch maybe. I cleaned it out. Going to keep an eye on it. |
I know it sounds gross but smell his ear. If it has an odor to it. It's most likely a yeast infection. He'll need to go to the vet and get antibiotic drops for it and ear dry. They will take a culture of the nasty brown goop and give you the appropriate drops and ear dry. Lily is prone to them (the vet thinks it has to do with a combination of her allergies and water in the ear) if a drop of water gets in her ears. I have to use ear dry after every bath other wise its an instant yeast infection. |
If it is a yeast infection in his ear, this recipe works better than anything from the vet (IMO) viewtopic.php?f=9&t=9198&hilit=gentian |
Yep a yeast bloom explosion |
Does your vet have a fiber optic ear scope? They are great for looking down in ears. Chewie's brother Will goes to the same vet, and his brown ear glob turned out to be from some ear canal hair growing way down in, that trapped wax and gunked up. They saw it with the scope, and under visual guidance, got the offending hairs pulled out. They are 6 yrs old, and this happened this past summer out of the blue. Never before...and they hope never again! |
Doesn't seem to smell. Not overly gross. He seems kind of greasy. I gave his ears a good wipe down and used the powder and grabbed some nasty looking hairs. See how it looks if the goop comes back I will take him in. He has always had nice pink clean ears. |
