been awhile for me....but here's a question

in my new apartment, jack is not eating much, and hasn't pooped accordingly, he doesn't seem to be having any trouble (no gas or attempted poops that come up with nothing) but he's just not trying. the first day he was here he took a huge poop, is it just that he's too hot to eat (it's been over 90 all the time) and therefore hasn't eaten enough to poop? or just constipated? (heck a day without pooping for me isn't a big deal, it usually means my girlfriend won't complain about the bathroom smelling, but i digress) or sould i worry about my little guy? :?:

It could be the heat and the change of surroundings. I know Lucy hardly eats at all when it's really hot-- she's always been that way. Also, when we moved, she had a similar problem but I could trace hers back to the fact that she just wasn't eating. It took her about a week to get adjusted again. When we got Clyde, she went through it all over again. I'd probably be more worried if he was trying to go and couldn't. Maybe just keep an eye on him for the next few days and see what happens then head for the vet if things don't improve.
Obviously check the rear door to make certain poop is plugging the exit port.

When it's hot, I change the time of day they eat and reduce the amount. They aren't moving around as much and surely don't need a bit extra to generate heat.

Any moving or change can upset a tummy. Offer the food, if they haven't eaten in 15 minutes, remove it and try again in 12 hours or the next day.

Make sure they are drinking enough. A change in living can mean a change in water taste.......some dogs are sensitive to this.

finally, smell the food. It goes rancid when exposed to heat. Could be your dog is trying to tell you the food doesn't taste right.
he's chugging water plenty, i'm certain he's getting his fill, but he seems to go for that (including the cats' water) over his food, even though it is very moist, and smells good....
Before we worry about acute kidney failure  let's let this go awhile. New apartment, heat, just no interest. After awhile, his tummy will win. In mean time continue to offer small amounts, like a half cup. If he's eating his "cookies" then I wouldn't worry. My pyr bitch will go on a "fast" for a few days, accepting a cookie or not and then return to food. She's 10 and been doing this from day one.
My girls seem to be off their food a bit too the last couple of days, I think it's just the heat, and I've been giving them ice cubes several times a day for treats. It is air conditioned in here pretty well, but the air is heavier and I think everyone, people and animals, just don't feel well after so many days of heat and humidty and smog.
Nice to see you back Ed! :) When do we get new pics?
