I've always freely complimented strangers on things when I admire them. Someone walking down the street with a dog: "Beautiful dog!" Or a really nice car or motorcycle. Or a painting, or pictures of the kids or whatever. But it's always genuine, I'm just not too shy to say something. Today someone returned the favor. It really surprised me and made me feel great! I was returning home from making a test run to the motorcycle school that I will be attending early in the AM on Saturday. I'm not familiar with the area at all and I'll be heading out before sun up and wanted to be sure I knew the way, or at least had ridden it once. Kinda good thing, too as in one place the road very suddenly went from 50 mile per hour limit to a narrow downhill sharp corner around a reservoir without much warning. But I digress. As I said I was on the way home when I stopped in at the local Radio Shack to pick up a part. As I was standing by my bike pulling on my riding gear to leave, a man stopped and said: "It's a beautiful day for a ride on a nice bike, and that bike is really nice. Really beautiful." and he continued on his way. In response I muttered "thanks!" probably pretty much the same way most people react to me when I do that... and then the feeling hit me. Wow! That felt good! I was gonna chase after the guy and thank him for making my day, but I could see he had been carrying a piece of electronics and he was already talking with the sales dude in the Radio Shack. So I didn't. Then on my way, believe it or not I pulled up to a red light and next to me was a 1970's El Camino in original unrestored condition but it was in good shape. I gave the guy a big "thumbs up" and he smiled and returned the gesture. But wow. I believe that was the first time ever that someone has complimented me out of the blue like that. I sure as heck was surprised at the power of a few kind words. I'll be sure to pay it forward some more! |

It's nice to really know that the little things you do in your everyday life make other people happy |
My favorite thing to give (and get) is a smile! It's amazing how much people appreciate it. My mother was always a riot. If she saw somebody who looked like they were having a rough day, she'd say, "I'm going to get that person to smile." And she always did. |
You're so cute Ron... I'm glad your motorcycle got the attn it deserves |
