It's unfortunate that your friend found out that her breeder was less than reputable. Still, she loves her dog and this should not change how much she cares for her. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally for responsible breeding and always encourage people to buy from a reputable breeder rather than a high-volume breeder doing it just for money. It's not the dog's fault. Buyers usually have no idea what happens in the kennels of a high-volume breeder. Sell a few pups and it makes room to breed more and more. The cycle continues. Not all dogs from less-than-reputable breeders have health or temperament problems. Just ask people who have adopted great rescue dogs! When you are dealing with a living, breathing creature there are no guarantees. When buying a puppy and given a choice, of course it's best to go with a breeder who actually cares about health and temperament. Most people just don't know what to look for in a breeder. Your friend should in no way be ashamed of her dog. Should she go back and buy another from this same person? Hopefully she has learned about responsible breeders by her interaction with you and Georgi. How much help Georgi's breeder has been to you in regard to grooming, training, handling and showing. You can be a great resource for her when looking for her next OES! We have adopted several exceptional rescues from not so reputable breeders before even being involved with any rescue groups. All were loved as if they were show dogs from the best of breeders. All I'm saying is please don't make your friend feel badly because of where her dog came from. Even with a few quirks, she probably loves her dog just as you love Georgi. And she should! |
