In Pepsi's senior years his gray skin color seems to have taken over, even under the whites. Is this normal? I know I have seen lots of pics of senior Sheepies that seems to be darker around the face and such. |

Normal, more pigment as they age. Watch toe nails, you may end up with pawful of black nails, drat! |
Thanks Susan! How r you? I hope all is well with you! It's been a very long time since I lived with a senior sheepie. I figured I would get the answer I needed here. I was 11 yrs old when my parents had to put down my 12 year old Sheepie Sister. Needless to say, that was quite a long time ago. I don't remember too much of her being a senior, other than her dementia, barking and leaking. I try to block that stuff out as much as I can. |
This is out of left field, but if the skin is a mottled greyish color, it could be a sign of a Sertoli tumor. A Sertoli tumor of the testicles or testicular material pumps out tons of estrogen I guess. In our Jake it caused the skin discoloration and enlargement of the nipples. Surgical removal both cured the cancer and the symptoms. |
Ron, It seems to be the same color gray as the gray under his grays. His eyeliner came in more last year and it seems to spread to his face and some areas of his front legs, but he still has a lot of pink areas. It's mostly his face area. No enlarged nipples. |
Yay!!! (Jake had been neutered, too. Hey, they only missed one.) |
Elissa, happy to hear from you! We've missed you. Kids OK. When we have to be away from home at night, MO gets stuck in a splat if she ventures to a smooth surface.....like garage floor. When we arrive home she's exhausted from the discomfort and can't stand or walk. We are learning not to panic, help her along, let her drink to excess, give her a pain pill and let her sleep the next day. She recovers and is back to her "pretty" good self. Tonight is another away night but is end of opera season, so we will be at home with her from now on. Harry still shows no discomfort from his tumor. |
Thanks, Missed you too! Hugs to Harry and Mo! |
Chewie is getting more black dots and spots every year. Yes, it's really common as dog's age. Even Riley the rat terrier is doing the same. He is 7, Chewie is 6. |
Thanks Dawn! |
