I know the girls are just playing, or pestering the cat, or just barking for the hell of it, but at what point do you tell them to can it? A Typical Night In Our Two Sheepie Open Floorplan House: Ava: "I'mma go peek in Lacy's crate. Hehehehe. Lacy: "Growl, oh no you don't." Ava: "Oh yeah? Watch me." Lacy: "BARK BARK BARK BARK!" Ava: "Oh yeah? I can bark louder than you: BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK!!!!" Lacy: "Nuh uh, *I* can bark louder than you: BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK!!!!!!!!!" Roz: "OMG SHUT UP, I just want to watch the closing ceremony, and Annie Lennox is on, and ....." Dogs: "BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Jason: "Hey hon, did you see the closing ceremonies? Great music!" Roz: "Huh? I can't hear you, I'm DEAF." |

Are Sheepies great? Zoey insisting on laying in bed with me while I was watching it too. Only she wasn't barking... She was sitting, as in refusing to LAY DOWN so I could actually SEE the TV. We only have a 31" TV in the bedroom and Zoey apparently is 32 inches wide when seated DIRECTLY in front of me! Oddly enough, it was during the Annie Lennox song too!!!!!! She keeps this up and I'm moving the 65" from the basement upstairs! Vance |
Strange how they seem to stand or sit in front of tv just at the part you have been waiting to see. Sprocket was trying to catch a fly that was walking on the screen at that moment.x |
LOL LOL GAWDDDDDDDD do I have "1" dog who is just like that. she makes up for 5 dogs. It's horrrible. We have done so much training but certain things are triggers (fetch, sheep herding, the door). Even the trainer who came ever said this was a lot harder than his other dogs. She's almost 8 and now good with the door (still barks but stops once we say it's okay ...and she can tell it's not a stranger). Otherwise, I literally feel like the inside of my ear is always itching (the echo that goes into my ear literally makes it itch)!!! So no advice... just had to say I i understand the rise in heart rate |
I spent a year taking care of baby granddaughter from 2 mths to 12 mths...two naps a day...could not watch Tv during baby nap time...Maggie barks and charges TV every time a commercial comes on...do you have any idea how many "beggin bacon strips" came on or petssmart? She barks, runs at TV, I tell her ITS THE TV, she lays back down! Rosie doesn't even get up or seems to notice! So between the loud volume and dogs in commercials I had to give up TV during baby's naps. Then they would bark because mailman, UPS, or any noise...finally just gated them in kitchen during nap time. I can only imagine Mrs. J with all in the house trying to let baby take a nap...she must have the patience of a saint! |

I'd freak out every time that would happen during nap time and the mailman would ring the doorbell ...........but they rarely woke up. That's when you know a dog barks a lot. They started hearing it in my belly. |
Luckily, my kids are with their dad the first half of the week, so they missed "Bark Fest 2012" this morning. I don't even know what the girls were squabbling over, or if they were just barking in each others faces. I hid in the shower and turned the radio on. |
My house is an open floor plan as well with 10 ft ceilings and mostly tiled floors...so I hear your pain. My girls barkfest begin with anyone walking or driving by the house, the ferrel cats walking by the house, the neighbor cutting their lawn...you get the idea. When they think "we" are going in the van together, the barkfest begins again. I don't have any little one sleeping but at any given time someone is sleeping in this house. Chuck works nights and my daughter is ill often so sleeps whenever she doesn't feel well or just feels like sleeping. We've all learned to sleep through the barking. I'm just happy that China rarely barks...she figures let Asia and Violet do the barking...she'll just look cute. |
sorry roz but you at least have your humor .. |
OMG that is funny. We have a really peaceful house in comparison. We had our Newfy for 2 years before we got Monty. Newfys rarely bark and Monty has learnt from him. The first park walk we did Monty started barking at a stranger but Buster payed no attention, Monty decided it was not necessary to bark. People walk down the street infront of the window, Buster doesn't bark so Monty doesn't. Squirrels scamper around the back garden, Buster does nothing, continues his nap, Monty gives chase and peeps with excitement. The time Monty barks is when we raise our arms above our heads and waggle them and when he wants to play, then he barks directly in Busters face or his ear or ours, ouch! Its funny but we are lucky we can say stop and he usually does and there is also no other sheepie dog to egg him on. For peace and quite a Newfy is the answer but Monty adds lots of homour to the household, wiggling that stubby tail of his. I like the personality traits of different breeds of dogs. |
If they start up like that (Mine have done this) I used an empty soda can full about 1/3 with pennies. Duck tapped the top and I shake it really hard. It's noisy and they shut up. They hate that can. Never had to use it many times. |
We have the opposite issue... We wish Max WOULD bark once in a while. LOL. The dog barely utters a peep... The only thing that ever triggers him is when he sees his shadow. Then, he will do a "grrr" but hardly ever a bark. Crazy pup! |
