Lola is faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.....here are 2 examples.. 1. I come home from work..she races to the door to say hello, then RACES back to brian (who is usually sitting in his leather chair) ...about 1/2 way to brian, lola SUPER bunny hops onto the back of brians chair and plops down behind his neck.... the chair is not against the wall and the chair back is about 36'' high.... 2. Lola and I went down to the potty pen..after she did her business, i open the gate and usually let her run around for a few minutes...that area has tables, chairs, outdoor sofas and seating areas on 2 different levels...i didnt notice this poor guy sitting out there smoking a cigar and talking on the phone...lola TAKES off, flies off the 2 step upper level and lands squarely on the mans lap....scared the bejesus out of him....he was quite nice about it.... Obviously, Lola is made for agility...however, how does one correct the superman behavior? |

AAAAAhahahahaha! It's funny for me... *I* don't have to deal with it. I think a little time will help. Yup, definitely a little time. By the time she's ten years old she won't jump -- as much. |
(Does she jump from in front of Brian? Over his head onto the back of the chair?) |
I would SOOOOO LOVE to have seen that jump to the cigar guy!!!! Any chance you can recreate it for a sure-to-go-viral video? Vance |

OK, this one might be too big: |
hahaha..must feel good to be THATTTTTTTTT missed while you're gone!!! Maybe some leash training (calling hubby right before you come upstairs) may work?? |
Ron wrote: (Does she jump from in front of Brian? Over his head onto the back of the chair?) yes brian is sitting in the chair....this last time, he was not amused...lol |
Lacy does this same thing Darcy. I swear she thinks she's an f'ing mountain goat. SO IRRITATING. So I'm awaiting some answers on how to stop this bounding up and over and onto things. On the plus side, she has NO problem jumping up on the grooming table. Heh. |
Darcy wrote: Lola really is one of the best behaved puppies ever!! With that being said, we do have one issue... i guess i am just used to perfect panda..lol...she only went up on anything if she was invited...never touched or tried to steal things off of the coffee table, lapped her water like a lady off the edge of the bowl, stayed out of my way in the kitchen...etc....now that i am reading what i just wrote, i think panda may have NOT been a sheepie...because Lola definately exhibits more ''normal'' behavior...lol |
LMAO!!! I couldn't stop laughing!!! Lily does the same stuff!! She kinda grew out of it...She still runs and jumps on the back of the couch but for the most part (with some training) knows not to do it. My friend owns a dog friendly bar here and he taught lily as a puppy to jump up on the bar (because he thought it was cute) She hasn't tried to jump over the bar in awhile. She still will put her feet up to get her treats, like shes ordering a drink. |
Well what you got here is old fashion sheepie zoomies. Very normal in a puppy. |
Quote: 1) this is perfectly normal sheepdog behavior 2) one doesn't correct it, one channels it Yep, MO did this for years.....well, maybe her first 4 years.....at least. She'd take the big club chair, footstool and sofa table in back with only her back paws making contact on the chair top. The other end of the run was the bedroom where she'd bank off the headboard before retracing her path. You have a herding dog who wants to move out and run, run, run. MO was fortunate to have acreage outside to run her paws off.....and did. She was super speedy and when in "run" mode was unstoppable. After she wore down, she was trainable. 1. Somebody needs more exercise. 2. Unless you want to enter her at the dog races as a hairy greyhound, she is going to need some activity.......as Kristine says, channel it. |
Treadmill hooked up to the power to generate electricity! |
So far, we've found that size is the only thing that helps - the bigger they get the more effort it takes at which point they're at 'cost versus benefit' dilemma. Caitlyn found that once she got to a certain size, it didn't seem worth the energy to make the upward bound to jump onto the recliner and then behind the poor soul sitting there. She still clears the deck steps, (four steps per level) going down in a single jump like it's nothing... Vance |
That made me laugh. Our 1st OES was a total leaping gazelle....our 2nd was moderate.....then Chewie who is so calm and eager to please. He and Panda spoiled us being the perfect children. Bond and Lola are their crazy followers, and so different from the previous dogs, that I think we both have some shock going on! Bond leaps over the couch from the back side - from a virtual standstill. Never even touches the back with a foot - just lands on the cushions. And I don't know about the weight and mass thing - he's 71 pounds, and been that weight for a couple months now. I guess he just grew bigger springs to account for it. As Kristine said - channel it. He only gets that explosive when he is not getting the mental and physical needs met. How is she doing in training classes? The mental exercise should be helping. |
it is just too darn hot here right now...without humidity, the outside temp is 115...she gets overheated pretty quick....brian learned the hard way after she threw up her lunch after playing outside..duh... we play ball in the hallway..we go for walks 7 am and 7 pm...with the ball playing around 8 pm...once the temp cools down, we will start classes...cant wait for san diego....she will have a blast on the beach! |
I just randomly found this and thought of you http://www.vetstreet.com/dr-marty-becker/why-does-my-dog-race-through-my-house?Wt.mc_id=jcfacebook |
