I just got back from a week in Cancun and had a college student watch the house and dogs. I noticed some staining on the back of Bentley ear and when I lifted his ear I noticed a wet spot below the ear. I took out the trimmers and shaved the hair off and around what looks like a hot spot and it is huge!! Larger than a golfball. I don't have a clue what happened. He was groomed the day before we left. I don't know if the groomer knicked him? I doubt it though because his hair is about 4 inches long. Anyway my dilemma is that his ear hangs over the hot spot and I can't get air to it. He keeps trying to scratch it and I can't put a collar on him to keep him from scratching it because the collar would sit right on the hot spot. I've been spraying it with Gentamicin vet spray and cleaning it with ear and skin cleaner. I tried pinning up his ear, but he was not happy about that!! Poor guy. I've given him some benedryl in hopes of keeping him sleepy.
Any ideas from my expert sheepie friends?? |

Okay, you all are no help!!! That's okay I forgive you!!
So I thought I'd share with you all, that the gentamicin spray did the trick and the hot spot is on big scab and healing nicely. |
I'm glad it did the trick!
I have no idea what to do with hot spots. Lily got a little one once but when I shaved the spot it dried up. (they were bad.) So my advice wouldn't have been helpful. |

Nothing works on Mattie's hot spots except clothing. Glad Bentley is feeling better.

Shaving and a little antibiotic ointment or spray usually works providing you can keep them from licking it. Bentley's problem was that his ear was covering it and not allowing air to get to it. |
