I was just at PetSmart earlier today and didn't like any of the ones they had. His neck size is 14" behind his ears and 15.5" in front of his front legs. I'd like one that's at least 1" wide, with the real heavy duty metal hardware. No plastic clasp style for him. He's broken those before. So where can I get a good collar that will fit him properly and be comfortable? Can be either online or brick & mortar. (HA. Maybe I should name my next dog Mortar, especially if he was crazy and made the house look like a bomb when off in it ) And what are the chances of finding one that's made in the U.S.? Thanks. |

I only use martingale (or limited slip) collars on all my dogs. My favorite companies are: Premier : http://www.premier.com/View.aspx?page=d ... iercollars About them: http://www.premier.com/View.aspx?page=about/premier Made in USA I have several of the solid nylon ones, our basset rescue fits every dog in our rescue with one. I just got a ribbon overlay one for Biscuit, our black lab - I got the dotted bliss one. It's actually more of a muted lime green in real life, looks great with his black coat. Daba Doo - I get them locally, and I don't know where they order them from. They have lots of fun plaids in many colors. I never can find them online Pawmark - my newest favorite. I order from them online and sell many to my students. The martingales with the chain tops are popular, as the chain part makes a noise when on lead, and gets the dog's attention. I have one of the nylon ones with a ribbon overlay for Bond - it's been his collar since I got him and I really like it. Same as Premier - they have plain nylon and tons of ribbon overlay options. Also made in USA http://www.pawmark.com/categories.php?cat=23 |

Bloo has 6 collars, all with matching leads, and 3 harnesses! Bloo has to look his best, he is a spoilt pooch I cant help with US collars but theres a cool website (i forgot the name of) that personalises the collars and leads! Its great you can have their names on and everything |
We only use Lupine here. They are guaranteed for life. You can purchase them from localized small pet stores or on-line. Their website gives you some suggested places. They are generally not at the big box stores. We use the D ring one so there is no plastic clip. It just slips over her neck. I have used Lupine for over 15 years and I even put the collars in the washing machine to clean them and they survive for years! I actually just switch them because I am bored of them....they are in fine condition. They come in different widths and lengths and some cool patterns. http://lupinepet.com/# |
I found this site online to be the best with a wide variety of collars.....dogids.com...Hope this helps |
I'm borderline obsessed with Sirius Republic, a small online business that gives back to rescues. www.siriusrepublic.com You can choose width (we get the 2" for Rude), and if you want buckle or martingale (I am a martingale fan) and they have tags that fasten flat on the collar so they are always attached with no jingling. If you do buy from there use code RPOT06 and 20% will be donated to my rescue. |
I have always used the rolled leather collars, really hard to get in the UK but they virtually last the dog a life time! |
