and i know the solution is to keep plastic away from him, which i do as much as possible. i just wondered if this was an issue with anyone else's sheepie. |

Okay, I'm glad that I am not the only one who had this problem. My sheepie, when he was a few months old would chew up glasses at any chanc he got. My husband and I were at the eye doctor's office so much that they started keeping an extra prescription on hand just incase. He has finally out grown it. WE THINK. As we were finally trained to keep our eye glasses out of his reach. |
Woof still has, at 11 months, a pechant for clothes pegs and coat hangers.....my guess is he doesn't want mummy to wash the lovely smells off of Daddy's clothes... |
Dougal is 7 months and is obsessed with sticks and stones! |
My male sheepie, Jack, loves eating dirt the most, he gets in our indoor and outdoor plants any chance he gets. His has a new favorite though, he can finally get up on the furniture and loves eating our remotes. There is 3 to choose from and none of them are safe. My little girl, Annabelle, loves toilet paper. I think she would give up her puppy food for gourmet toilet paper. They keep us on our toes and laughing. Stormi |
It started with plastic milk jugs in the recycling bin. She would grab one out, making it skate across the tile. Then she pounced on it and began chewing on it. The girls decided to make it a game. They put in milk bones (which we found she is allergic to) and the chase was on.
Besides finding out that too many milk bones makes for a very messy sheepie, I also found that she will chew on the threaded neck until her gums bleed. Thus 2 new rules of the house were born. One, Abbi can have no more than 2 milk bones in any given day. This is monitored, only 2 are ever available in any day. And secondly, once the treat is bounced out of the jug it goes back to the recycle bin outside in the front yard. Now she's chewing on her very heavy duty plastic food bowls. Guess I will have to buy some metal ones. Yet she hates those plastic chew bones that are supposed to be good for her teeth? I was wondering about the corn starch bones, are they any good for the dogs' teeth? Does anyone know how long one of those $3 cornstarch bones will last with a sheepie? Is it worth it? |

I just bought a rather expensive dental bone and she will not touch it unless I cover it with peanut butter or a meat spread! Guess I will just have to start brushing her teeth. |
Lennon also loves plastic hangers, milk jugs and any other good plating thing you leave within reach. The only way to keep him from chewing stuff was giving him his very own plastic hanger and now he's very happy with it, we just make shure to discard it once it gets pointy edges when he breaks it. I guess it's healthy for his gums, you just got to keep your sheepie supervised so he only chews and not eat the plastic.
Have you tried with Greenies? Lennon loves them, but they don't last more than 10 minutes on him before they are gone, so instead of dental traetment they are just special treats. |
Does that come looking like a toothbrush? I think my sister gave Abbi one of those. Unfortunately she was outside, which means Abbi immediately went and buried it behind the shed. She's probably eaten it by now, since that was last Christmas. I guess I should go check, but I just retrieved 3 of her toys from there two days ago.
I am thinking about using the Greenies and those cornstarch bones as treats. We gave her a Denta Bone and she finally demolished it yesterday. She really gets into the chewing. Since she's become sick the cost of things doesn't seem so important. |
Yes! They are green and come in the shape of a toothbrush that ends in a bone. They just love them and it keeps them with a nice minty breath... I Know because Lennon has this thing for licking my face when I come home.
There's only 2 toys that Lennon hasn't been able to chew away: An old navy dog bone and a plastic squeaky ball... Everthing else just lasts for a few weeks before is useless (sigh). |
my boyfriend bought truman one of those old navy bones. he thought it would be good because of his penchant for plstic. truman has zero interest in it. none at all. |
Lennon didn't pay much attention to it until we started covering it with yummy stuff, like peanut butter or canned food. Then he began getting interested on it an now he fetches it if you trow it and sometimes I catch him chewing at it. I wouldn't say he's too exited about it but it keeps him busy, maybe because he knows they are indestructible he'll trade it for a nice plastic hanger any time. |
when my boy was 3 month....he started chewing anything at hand....but I bought him a raw hide bone.....he can play with it for hours ...throwing it, and specially chewing on it.....it lasts about a month before i have to buy a new one....
I haven`t figured out yet but Pisco can open my closet`s door...beat me every time I come home and there he is with half of my shoes out ...funny thing is that he doesn`t bite them....just gives them a good lick ... but pillows.........he adores those, I have a lot of them on my bed...he would jump on my bed (when I don`t see him) and starts taking one by one the pillows of the bed and deposits them in the middle of the living room....The best or worst...haha is that he knows he is being naughty because if he sees me while doing it he would take one to the bed ...gives me a smile...yep he smiles and goes under the bed..... |
My Bouvier loved the 20 oz soda bottles (cleaned with the cap and break away ring taken off). She would just kick it around the hard wood floors and chew it all day. Nice cheap toy. She evetually grew out of the soda bottles and fell in love with her stuffed gorilla, which she walked around with in her mouth like Charlie Brown's Linus and his blanket. |
"gordon" the Gorilla was the Woof's very first toy! The Linus' blanket line was very apt. He still drags Gordon around (although he's now reduced to being a scraggy bit of material after being chewed to death)
...the cuddly toy that is, NOT Woof (must do sometinh about my syntax....) |
Raja the stuffed tiger went the same way as Gordon... Despite the fact that I paid $30 for that stuffed tiger a long time ago, it's fun to watch Lennon carry what's left of it all around the house and asking you to toss it for him. |
truman still loves to eat plastic, but he's also grown very fond of a little bug stuffed toy. its a lady bug. we call it his girlfriend |
Fritz the Frog is Dougal's favourite. Although his croak failed on him a few months back so his squeeky backside is now taking the full force of Dougal attacks... |
