It could be conjunctivitis? Has he been around any other dogs lately, or dog parks or kids? Or, he could have gotten something in his eye and it irriated it which could cause infection. Is it yellow/green and goopy? Are the lids sticky? It could be allergies, but, if it looks really yucky, I would take him to the vet. Always go with your gut even if it turns out to be nothing. Try using a slight warm wash-cloth compress on the eye to clean it. Very gently. Take note how quickly the gunk comes back. |

I have a tube of eye ointment that I keep on hand (I buy it from my vet). As soon as I see this, I clean the eye & put a small amount on the inside of the lower lid. Generally clears it up in a days or so. BUT AND I AM STRESSING THIS: Make sure you take your dog to the vet 1st so they can make a determination. And don't put anything into their eye that the vet doesn't recommend. |
