Being a relatively young dog owner (just almost 21), I think a lot of people doubted how serious I was about taking care of a dog. I diligently saved my paychecks from my minimum wage desk job, budgeted for vet bills/emergency funds and pinned up pictures of Sheepadoodles all over the place to remind me what I was working toward. In late May, I convinced my parents to come with me on the nine hour drive (one way!) to pick up Izzo. The second I saw him, I knew everything was worth it. Truthfully, I'm in love with the little guy. I try my best not to spoil him too much, and I think my admittedly excessive zeal has done us well in our first few months. He's brilliant (but I'm biased) and sweet as any dog I've ever met. I am a summer nanny, and he comes to work with me every day to watch the kids--we are inseparable. We are constantly looking for new tricks to learn, new recipes to try and any advice we can find on growing up! |

Welcome from Michigan! I'm 18 and I have my first sheepie, and a lot of people didn't seem to take me seriously either. So I know how it feels! Izzo is very cute! |
Welcome Izzo and Stacy, from MN. We are a dog oriented family - I grew up with dogs and showed and competed, so my kids did as well. From the time they were each 9-10 yrs old, they had their own dogs and did all the obedience training and showing with them. My one daughter moved from MN to NY for college, and had to leave her old Min Pin at home. Out there, she applied to adopt a min pin from a min pin rescue (she nannied out there too)...and at as a young person about age 20, they were skeptical. After they interviewed her and found out her long history with dogs and training, they wanted her to adopt AND foster for them!! |
Welcome from Tennessee!! Izzo is adorable-- |

auntybren wrote: Welcome from WV!! Izzo is previous, what beautiful markings. Do sheepiedoodles have tails? The breeders I spoke to all had different answers. I was insistent on a little guy with a tail (because I always missed one on our family OES). Two of them said they did not dock tails because there was no breed standard therefore they did not see it necessary, and one said that he did dock the tails but would leave one for me if I wanted. Incidentally, of all the sheepadoodle breeders I found, a large amount of them were in West Virginia! |
oh how adorable!!! |
Hey, we have a Valentine. She is from the same parents as your Izzo. She is only 3 months old. But, I also am in love with her. I have only had OES till Valentine. Our daughter has bad allergies and we found this breed worked for our family. But reading on here makes me feel like some people are not so happy about Sheepadoodles. |

I like all dogs. Mutts or purebreds (I prefer OES) Sheepadoodle is not a breed. It is a cross breed dog (otherwise known as a mutt) that you happen to know the lineage of the pups. Meaning probably only mom and dad. These kinds of "designer" dogs are sold at high prices (higher than either breed costs) and usually do not have any heath testing, since there is no registry for these dogs (akc/ukc doesn't register them) there is no way to provide proof that these pups will be healthy, nor is there a standard. You can't garrentee that a pup will be more like a sheepie or a poodle. Personality or looks. Old English Sheepdogs are not common and are in fact on the endangered dog breed list. Why take away more from this wonderful breed? |
You have a sheepadoodle from the same breeder as Izzo? Can I see pics?! |

Post them! Post them! Sheepadoodles are very cute; although I am partial to my OES I know a couple of my friends who are just as obsessed with their dogs of different breeds/mixes. I also have friends who are against pure breed dogs entirely, whatever works for them as they have their reasons for their opinions. I have what I think is a labradoodle that we adopted and I don't love him any less or more than I love my Sheepie as they are both very different in their mannerisms. Although Ru has a few issues that may or may not be poodle related. You have to get the dog that is right for you and your family/lifestyle right? Especially where allergies are concerned. The OES is an endangered breed... so I would have several if my husband would let me but he has said if I get any more animals there will be no room left for him. There are a lot of people on here that devote a lot of time and energy to the breed through showing and breeding so they are understandably partial to OES and protective of the breed. But I know that as long as YOU love your dog and give it a good life then that's all that really counts |

But reading on here makes me feel like some people are not so happy about Sheepadoodles. mmm As a owner of our lovley breed which is OLD ENGLISH SHEEPDOG I will give my two pennies worth OES were from about 1850s and were first and foremost a working dog kept by sheperds and Drovers to round up sheep and cattle take them to market Breeding takes years and years of knowledge I take my hat off to our Breeders for with out them we would not have our lovely OLD ENGLISH SHEEPDOGS then along come some people who think it is a good Money Earner to put a Doodle with this dog and that dog the list is getting longer and longer, the price for one of these cross breeds is more then a full pedegree dog ,the doodle dogs have had no heath checks, don't know there temperaments and so on. An OES breeder would of had there Dogs health checked IE: Eyes.deafness, elbows, hips,PCD,Temperament, just to name a few, So NO I for one am NOT happy with with cross bred Doodle dogs. I do love a Poodle tho OES are on the endangerd list as only 300 puppies were registered in the UK last year heres a thought tho with out OES beening shown our breed will decline even further |
