Bark Bark Bark "I'm THIRSTY!"

Lacy keeps waking us up anywhere between 1AM and 3AM. She's maybe 3 months old, so I don't really think that's a big deal - if it was that she wanted to go pee. But that's not what she wants. She wants to get out of the crate and drink a gallon of water in the middle of the night. And of course that leads to.... peeing in short order, which means we get up again about 5AM.

I leave water down at all times. In this climate, I don't see how I can deny water ever really. I've considered the whole "taking up the water at 7 or 8PM to aid in potty training, but I do not know what to do about this wanting a drink in the middle of the night. She will bark her fool head off until you let her out and let her drink. Then she cheerfully goes back to the crate. Ava never ever did this. In fact, Ava never once woke me up earlier than about 6AM.

Is she playing games with me? Or do you think there's something wrong? This madness must end.

She's testing the waters... don't give it. She's in an air conditioned home, she won't die, although she might try to convince you otherwise. If you give in now, she wins and she'll never let you forget it.

With Caitlyn, we pulled the water up around 8PM for the first month. After that she was good to go through the night.

I'll explain it to the kids and Jason that I'm going to let her bark her head off tonight. They won't like it, but if it's just a couple of nights, they'll have to deal.
I didn't pick up the water, as I had Simon with his heart and kidney issues who needed to drink 'round the clock.
Bond was only away from the water when crated at night, and he was about 5 months when we stopped that. He graduated to the cement (cool) floored porch where the other dogs sleep. They are gated, but also has a big crock of water. There were no accidents, so it worked for us.
Bond is a BIG water drinker too.
