At this point, I would get her to the vet. She could have an allergy to something in the ear mite meds. You could be dealing with an overgrowth of bacteria, or yeast, and the vet will need to look at an ear swab under a microscope to tell you precisely which. I would get her in to the vet ASAP, as the head shaking could cause hematomas, which creates a new set of problems requiring treatment. Laurie and Oscar |
Poor girl, hope you get some answers soon. |
Thanks Laurie and Ilene. She has stopped shaking her ears and her ear flaps have gone back to baby pink. I really shouldn't have given her ear mite treatment. Her ears are actually quite clean with no smell but just a little wax build-up to begin with. It's just she scratches her chin/ear areas occasionally and so I thought even though the ears look so clean, it didn't hurt to give her ear mite treatment just in case. I was wrong!!! I am lucky she is back to normal now after I flushed out the meds. A big lesson I learned! I will watch her ears closely the next 24 hours to make sure there is no more bad effect. Thanks again |
Glad to hear she is better BUT there is an ingredient in the ear mite treatment that some dogs are highly allergic too. I suspect what you saw was that very thing. I wouldn't use again and would see the Vet if the head shaking and redness reappears. Good Luck. |
Thanks Diane. I tossed the med and added that info to the medical record I keep for her |
I hope you and Kahlua have an uneventful night! |
I use a powder in Summers ears when she scratches. I usually wipe her ears flaps and dry them wait a while and then apply the powder. She usually shakes for a minute or 2 then is fine. A few days later you gt nice black muck out! |
Sue,what is the ear powder you use please? Do you get "over the counter" or from the vet?x |
