I have a female, but have been told by numerous breeders and trainers that males are sweeter and not as moody or stubborn. They say this applies to dogs in general not only sheepdogs. It is a "hormonal thing". Although the trainer states a spayed is o.k. This is my second female and both have been o.k. |
I have a male and a female. They are 4 months and 6 months. The male is always ready to please, listens very, very well. He was potty trained quicker and really just a lovable guy. Now, don't get me wrong the female is great also, but she is more feisty and moody. She is potty trained now, but it took greater strides to get there. I grew up with an OES and am having a blast watching my kids with them now. I hope this helps out and what ever sex you get, have fun. |

Thanks to everyone who replied. We are going to get a male. I've only ever had male dogs, growing up and as an adult. I'm not surprised to hear females are more "emotional." It's a trait most of us human females have more of than males. |
I've had both Male and Female, each had something unique about them. Although this may be said about all dogs in general.
I've noticed the Female is far more neuturing to the other small creatures in my household. She was the Alpha dog as well so all the other dogs I brought in after her followed her lead. The Male was a big sweetie pie..although one thing to remember is that male dogs in general have more agression issues with other male dogs. Here's a point of interest..did you know that in Wolf Packs there has never been a recorded case of a Male attacking a female...never! Domestic dogs in general follow this lead as well...Males only fight Males and Females fight Females and both would never attack a puppy only dicipline them. Dogs live by this code although some "break the code" for a variety of reasons. Just like in human species the females rarely ever fight. Just thought I'd point that out to you if you were considering taking your dog to off leash dog parks...seems to be easier with Female dogs(spayed of course, or at least not in heat .Same with Neutured males too as they are not seen as a threat to intact dogs. Ha!! Stormi!! good answer! |
