Shorter haircut without shaving. Is it possible!?

So my cute sheepie is definitely getting a bit hotter with the summer months. I want to give him a shorter cut, but don't want to shave him. Is there any kind of shaver that can be used that won't go all the way to the skin? Or can groomers give him a haircut. I know many groomers get overwhelmed with so much hair! Any advice?

I give scissors haircuts to Chewie at home. I don't want a real short look.
Previous OES we had shaved - so he's my 1st I've done this with. I recommend just taking the plunge and getting a decent scissors and giving it a try! :D
Groomers will do it, but it takes a lot of their time - so some won't do it at all, others charge a lot to do it.
I decided I would like to try - and it's actually quite fun. :D
If I was going to cut Eevee's hair shorter, I would do it myself with scissors. I cut my own hair, and Jacob's hair, and that doesn't look too bad. So, maybe you have a really patient haircutting friend who would be willing to cut it, or you could ask groomers in your area, or you can try doing it yourself!
Shaving doesnt always mean it has to be short but.... it does have to be matt free if there is going to be any length left on
You can get blades that attach to your clippers that will go to 12mm and. go through minor matts thats a 3f and youcan also get attachment combs that fit a 10f blade that can leave the coat upto 2". To use these be patient, make sure the coat is clean and matt free, ive had really nice results, you may see a picture of bloo that keeps popping up, thats an attachment comb.
If you take your dog to the groomer and its the first time, offer they do it in two srssions, first a brush, bath and dry and next day to scissor or clip. Its going to be easier on your dog and your groomer may have the patience to do what you want
I have always cut our sheepies after our first one,Shep was shaved real close and he hated it,he tried to hide untill it had grown a bit. I am not cutting Sprocket this year as he is just two wriggly though I am sneaking up on him and trimming bits. He if fine with feet but won't let me near his "under carriage" now he is a "big boy". I just do bits when can when he is a cuddly mood etc.x
Can you guys post some pictures of these cuts you do by hand? I want to trim Izzo every now and then, but I'm nervous that I don't have enough of an idea for what I want!
