Gone too far!

:x Im so mad at bloo right now.
He has always been a runner offer, but he seemed to have gotten better on his recall....

But, today we took bloo to the stadium fields. I let him off lead, bad idea.... He suddenly just ran full speed over 2 fields to this dog that wasnt very friendly. It served bloo right! I literally had to chase him around the field to get him back!!!
So, hes gone too far now, im not allowing him to have the free rain. For the rest of next week im road walking him on the cannycollar and shortlead.
Hes pushed his luck too far now! We seem to be going backwards instead of improving.

There could be a dog a mile away and bloo would run off to it! :( Hes dog obsessed. I dont know if he could sense it was another unneutered male or a female on heat, but this is the 3rd time hes ran off, and i dont trust him anymore.

I fully understand why many people dont let their sheepies off lead, because if their anything like mine they run off!!! :x
Oh well, serves him right, until he learns and grows up nomore off lead running, its causing me stress. Hed rather be with other dogs than me! :x

I think it is because he is a dog Sam. We have never had any trouble with our big dogs (all bitches) they just dont go far away. Yorkies are different kettles of fish! Out of 4 I have had only one would come back! So they were just kept on leads! Naughty boy Bloo scaring your Mum!! :wag:
Eevee won't wander far, I let her walk herself from the house to the car while I have my hands full with Bailey who's usually trying to pull me down the street. Bailey is a runner, if I let go of her leash or leave the gate open, she'll be halfway down the street before you know it.
Mine are all boys (2 intact males, 3 neutered males) except one female - and it's not a gender issue. It's a training issue, and what he knows he can get away with, unfortunately.
I always thought it was instinct for sheepies to stay close but i guess not. Lily is the only dog we have that can be trusted off leash. Her recall is almost perfect. Sometimes when anouther dog is near i have to throw in a leave it or two but other than that, she will stay within 10 feet of me. (Unless at the dog park or fenced yards where its allowed, even then she comes and checks on me)

My hound/lab mix can be trusted as long as there is absolutely no chance there will be no other dogs. (Happens 1% of the time) he will fight almost any strange dogs. Lucily he didnt really get the hound nose so he sticks pretty close when the rare chance arises.

Our wolf hybrid is ok at recall, i wouldnt trust him to not run off. He loves (I mean LOVES :hearts: :hearts:   ) children and would absolutely follow one home. Not only that he has a high prey drive with outside animals, will chase any animal and try to play with any dog.

That being said i can trust every single one of them to go straight from the house to the car and visa versa. 100%.
Butchy is pretty good but when the female dog lived next door they were allowed to play so if she was out he couldn't hear me for anything. He would come back tho, now when the rabbits catch his eye that's a different story, he's gone. Luckily when he realizes he can't catch them he comes back.

We always had more problem with our Bassets, they could not be trusted off leash. Even when Tripper got older we'd try and give him some freedom but had to watch like a hawk because he'd watch us and then go. Felt bad for him but he wouldn't listen at all.
He doesnt bother with people. He wont go far if theres no dogs but as soon as he spots a dog whoossh.. i tried everything to get him back but unfortunately some dogs are small and others are vicous. I will say this because i like to be honest, bloo has started to get snappy and growling around other dogs if he cant get any 'play' out of them. My mom thinks because he plays with cats that he doesnt quite understand dogs body language. If anotjer dogs hackles go up and start snarling, bloo seems to get more bouncy as if hes reading the wrong signals!

Im going back to basics again.... ;( recall is the one test we never passed, ive worked so hard, when i go walkies im loaded with treats and toys to get his attention, he wont have it, if he sees anothr dog you got no chance.
Bloos socialised since birth, he used to play with all dogs gently and nice, but not now. He has no manners. The same dogs he used to play with are like his enemies, i really dont know...But im stressed and scared to even leave the house. Even when we walk up the street. I always step in when i see another dog comung the other way, because he just pounces on them! I admit just lately i cannot control bloo :( Hes too head strong. Hes trained in everything but dog manners and recall. It just all went to pot :(
Now ive left school im spending all days with bloo, building a bond, he loves me all the way on walks in the garden etc...but as soon as another dog comes ibto sight, he forgets me, hed rather go off. I dont know what went wrong, i never thought id have to be weary of my own dog. Why cant he just be nice and come back when called!!??

Anothrr thing that really hurts me is that when we come onto the field all the others pick up their little dogs and carry them away. I understand why, but, id never let bloo off when the little dogs are on, i never have....i suppose rumours go around ;(

Sometimes when we go on the park theres lots of dogs playing, but i have to drag bloo away because its teasing him if i stay and he has to be kept on lead...

All i want is for him to come back when called!
Keep with training and maybe an outdoor refresher class would help. He is stil in the teenage stage and it is important to keep at, even when it feels like its not doing anything. Dont get discouraged! Teenage sheepies are a handful!
Sam dont stress about owners picking small dogs up when they see Bloo, it is just because he is big. We have people cross over the road when they see Summer and she is so gentle. The only dog she ever went for was an Akita, and that growled at her first. I must admit I pick Tilly up if I see a big dog close by. I am lucky that I never go out alone always got son or hubby with me. I dont know what to suggest, sorry xx
I almost prefer if if small dog owners pick their dogs up when Ava is barreling down the road. She gets really worked up when they start yapping at her, and then it just escalates, so I'd rather the small dog feel secure as we go by rather than having it erupt into Ava trying to swallow chihuahuas whole.

Though I have to say the look on a chihuahuas face when Ava barks back at them is priceless. Yep, her bark is WAY bigger than you, you little yap machine!
He needs to know who is boss and NO means NO give it another 4 years and I am sure you'll know where you fit in his world.

Archie is the most friendly peaceful dog around here, yet some owners of other dogs just see a BIG dog, how many stories I have had that other peoples dogs have had problems with OES previously (Total rubbish considering how many you see) it is human and stupid rat on a string problem primarily caused by the owners.

I don't take offence at owners going other routes or picking up their dogs, it's not the dog doing it!

Other dogs will give you a warning snap but on the whole nothing comes of it, I just say to Archie "see I told you you'd get told off"

Read the owners first and then read their dogs.
