There is an OES at my shelter. I'm going at noon. She's 3 months old, owner surrender. I may be about to become the owner of a second OES. |
|
wow... that is soooo exciting!!!!!! good luck!! pics! |
Just in time for the new house!!! What awesome timing. And we all know Ava needs sibling... Vance |
Oh lordy, here she is I hope she's as sweet as she looks. I'm curious why the owners surrendered her. |
Zoey was surrendered because the previous owners didn't like the fact that she was nipping and chasing their toddlers... THAT'S THEIR JOB!!!!! And I'm oh-so-glad these people were too stupid to realize it! Vance |
What a day. What a flippin DAY. Closing the house. Final Walkthrough.... new puppy? OMG. Vance, I suspect that's the case here, they're holy terrors at this age, as we all know. |
soooo cute. glad you were there to save the day (even though it's secretly to your advantage too ) |
Congratulations!!!! This is wonderful timing: A new sibling to distract Ava from the weirdness of a new place! A once in a lifetime chance to deal with chewing and house-accidents by not unpacking things, rather than putting them out of reach! No territory issues, as the new house will be neutral ground! Yes, I know the doubled up changes and stress will be huge...but I had to give you some positives . When we bought our house, I also quit my job and started my small business. For weeks I walked around muttering: "I quit my job, then took out a mortgage...I quit my JOB, and took out a mortgage..." It all worked perfectly in the end |
Yay! How wonderful! She looks adorable! Best of luck with the new house and pup! |
shes to cute! Hope you get her and give her a great home. |
So, is she part of your family??? I do crazy stuff like that all the time....glad for company |
She's adorable. Hope everything works out for both of you!! |
You are so lucky, she really looks like a cutie. |
She is cute. Looks like she will make a wonderful sister for Ava. Hope everything works out the way you want it. |
So it's after lunch in NM..... Where are the photos of the new puppy?!?!?!?! Vance |
I said a prayer that you will keep your sanity after moving and adopting a puppy! Could you foster instead of doing an official adoption? |
Only 3 months old? NO wonder an owner-surrender So,... did you get her????????????? |
she sure is cute. what do people expect at 3 months! see if that was a yorkie at 3 months old it would be acceptable poor big dogs being 3 months old pups isnt acceptable. Am confused have you got her or not? |
Are you getting her? She's cute! |
Got her. Will post more later. Lots to say and I am on my phone and on my way to closing. Pick her up at 4. |
Yay! Congrats (: I hope your closing goes smoothly! |
what a day you have had .. 2 puppys playing in your new home..HOW FUN!!!!!!! so happy for you ! who would dump a 3 month old> |
A TWO puppy home!!!! Now that would be a blast! I can already see them chasing each other around the new digs. Roz, you will have to post videos and lots!!! Vance |
Congrats! That is wonderful! |
You know what they say "new house, new furbaby." So happy for you. |
Glad to hear you got her along with your new house. Quite a day, hope you sleep well tonight. |
OMG is right! What a day! I hope it was "just" because of nipping and that she's healthy. What a cutie! Next stop: The Vet! |
Baba wrote: Only 3 months old? NO wonder an owner-surrender So,... did you get her????????????? Oops, I read that as 3 weeks old! So the onus is entirely on the the foolish owners, of COURSE a 3 month old sheepie is a nipping-biting thing! Mady was a nipping terror until about 4.5 months, and look at Mady now, a dream dog! So? Sooooooo??? Did you get her???? |
Yep, we're headed to pick her up shortly, I need to go get her a much smaller kennel. You guys know Ambers little pup Abby? Yeah, she's that small. Like TEENY. They're calling her 3 months, but Ava was bigger than this at 8 weeks. She's a freaking mess. Eye goop balls under her eyes as big as marbles. She's terrified. I am worried that she may have very bad hips. She did eventually get up and prance around when I took her out on the leash at the shelter, so, we'll see. I'm preparing myself for a health disaster here. She's otherwise extremely sweet. The story that the shelter gave me was this: The owners had two baby OES. One died supposedly of parvo, and they "just knew this one was going to die too, and we can't afford treatments". So, they put her in isolation in the administrators office - and she never fell ill, and tested negative on every Parvo test they've given her. She's just teeny, and looks like she was neglected. I haven't weighed her yet, but if Ava was ever this tiny, I would be surprised. She is not matted at all, which is a bonus, but she's obviously been living in her own feces to some degree - they couldn't take her out much at the shelter due to the "parvo" stigma she'd been hung with. Of course they cleaned her crate, but still, with as many dogs as this kill shelter takes in, I'm surprised they kept her at all. They've had her since June 22nd. This poor poor baby. I called my husband who was in a meeting and told him I needed to speak with him ASAP. He couldn't talk right then, but then texted me and said he could text. I told him it wasn't a texting conversation. I needed his ok for this really. So he stepped out and called me back. When I told him what was up, he agreed, she couldn't stay there. We are looking at putting our names in with the Colorado Rescue folks, and the Texas Rescue folks as possible available foster homes or transport in this area. I have never in my life seen anything as sad as this poor girl shut up in this office. I don't know whether to scream, or cry. |
I just don't understand people sometimes. I'm glad you got her out of there. Hope all goes well and she is a great new addition to either your family or someone looking to love a wonderful breed. |
You should probably keep her quarantied from Ava until YOUR vet gives her a clean bill of health. And congrats & thank you. She looks like a real cutie. |
Oh yes, keep her away from Ava unless she brings home Parvo, worms or other nasties. I pray she's not related to Jack.....who is from that area. Check her hearing quickly as well since deafness runs great in those pups there from Anthony area. |
You are my heros for getting her. She will have a great life with you. |
Oh, poor baby! Thank you so much for getting her out of there, whether she winds up with you permanently or not. |
KTB wrote: Am confused have you got her or not? Me too. Is the picture you shared a recent one or one at take-in a few weeks ago. She looked pretty good in the picture. And I agree... keep her separate from your other dog. Talk with your vet too. Quote: I am worried that she may have very bad hips. She did eventually get up and prance around when I took her out on the leash at the shelter, so, we'll see. I'm preparing myself for a health disaster here. If you plan on keeping her and think she may have medical issues down the road, check into insurance that also covers hereditary conditions (it won't cover pre-existing). Embrace or Trupanion might be good choices. Can't wait to see new pictures! Thanks for getting right in there to claim her. |
Roz--thank you for rescuing that poor baby! Above advice is very good--let the Vet check her out and then introduce her to Ava. Hopefully with love, care and regular feedings she will begin to catch up! You are her angel! |
I think that may have been at intake. she did NOT look that good today. I just bathed her, and I have rarely seen a dog grateful for a bath, but this one really was. I still can't get all the eye goobers. I got her as clean as I could, I'll bathe her again in a few days. She stinks. She's warming up and starting to play a bit, but still very timid. She loves laps. And I am almost positive something is up with her rear end, because it's just funky when she gets excited. Unless the "butt wagging the dog" rather than the other way around is normal? Ava doesn't do that. |
Oh, and there is NO WAY this dog is 3 months old. She might be 9-10 weeks. MAYBE. So tiny. So So So tiny. |
Roz, Does the girl you rescued even look like the one in the picture you posted earlier? Because I would not characterize the dog in the picture to be "so tiny. So so so tiny". I wonder if that's a pic of another dog. Will you be taking her to the vet tomorrow? |
Hmmm, Yeah same dog, maybe Ava is just huge? This girl can't possibly weigh over 12 pounds absolute max. It's possible she's not overly small but wow, like I said, Ava wasn't this small at 8 weeks, Let alone 12. I will take her in tomorrow for a check. She is eating and drinking well so far. |
So glad you sprung her. A bath how lovely and to read also a dog totally enjoying that. God bless her. and you too for caring for this lil poppet. Eye goobers, at the moment, get some warm water and salt and make up a saline solution, perfectly OK to bath her eyes in that, take a cotton wool ball, soak it in the warm solution and starting at the top of the corner of the eye pass the soppy warm cotton wool ball down to the inside corner of the eye and then dab with a dry piece. If getting her vet checked tomorrow, mention the over goopie eye discharge and have the vet look for any signs of Entropian. As far as her size is concerned, she might be full of worms, who knows with what the past short history is with this lil possum, which would make her tiny self understandable too, regardless get the vet to worm her while she is there to rule that out and yes just keep ava away till you have the all clear from the vet check. Keep us posted on how it all goes, she does look a darling and piccys needed soon XX |
After her next bath, just let her play a bit before drying her off. Then take a flea comb and gently comb out any eye goop while it's moist. Use cotton balls soaked in warm water to gently finish it up. Then dry her off. There can be big differences in puppies weights yet they can still be the appropriate size for their individual builds and lines. With another pup in your home, I'd get her vet checked tomorrow if at all possible. If the shelter had her for a few weeks, they likely took all the necessary steps but it's best to have your own vet look her over asap especially since you're concerned. Anxious to see pictures of your new baby! |
She doesn't look small to me in that picture either. And, yes, puppies often wag their entire bums If you're thinking hip dysplasia, the odds of that showing up that young is next to zero. She may have funky structure that makes her move kind of funny, or she may be at a funky growth stage (ditto), she may be a very soft and somewhat submissive (maybe) dog (butt wiggling) or she could have been sitting in a crate or something at the shelter and is under muscled. I wouldn't panic on that count just yet. Shelter life is never kind to high maintainence hairy dogs, even the young ones. She'll clean up (grow out of the staining) in time. Glad you bailed her out. Hope she turns out OK on all counts. Kristine |

Is the eye discharge a yellow/creamy colour if so could be with the conditions she was kept in conjunctavitis. Again get the vet to check and when cleaning her eye discharge in the meantime after before going near ava, cleanse hand thoroughly as it can be tansmitted not only to you but ava too. Give her time to settle in, everything is strange to her in her short life so far, she does look like a total sweetheart as well and again your wonderfull for taking this little poppet in and showing care and luv, probably for the first time in her short little life so far. I am sure ava will love this new addition to the family too and both will become close sisters to share fun and good times ahead. |
Did I miss a name? |
Bailey still wiggles her butt all over the place, especially when she's REALLY excited. I don't think it would be a hip thing. Definitely get her all checked out by the vet soon. Ron, according to facebook her name is Lacy! I really like that name. |
She looks adorable in the pic you posted. Thank you for rescuing her when you're super busy. Hope the vet gives you a good report. Can't wait to see more pics. My DH was just saying last night that I should get Tiggy a sheepie puppy to keep her busy I told him not to give me any ideas ............... however now that I've seen the pic of your little poppet? I HAVE ideas. |
She's so young, I'm sure she'll bounce back a lot with love, care, and attention! |
Any update? |
Hey guys! Still mid move, posting from my phone. Lacy is fine, checked out fine at the vet this morning. Some popping in her hips, having her get a PennHip in El Paso soon. More later, but I am an idiot, She is not small, I just apparently do not remember how little Ava was. She actually weighs more than Ava did at 3 months. Apparently I need my head examined. More later. Must eat. |
I have a hard time remembering how little Eevee was, today I realized she's taller than Bailey now! They don't grow overnight, so it's hard to see the changes. I hope her hips are okay! |
I've never had an OES puppy. Sigh. Mixed emotions. |
Oh,I think every household need to have an OES puppy. They are just so adorable, really "human baby" like.x |
You're in the middle of a move - mind going 50 directions at once. I just appreciate your getting back to us at all while everything is goign on. |
Ron wrote: I've never had an OES puppy. Sigh. Mixed emotions. Ron - you should have one some day, if only so you can warn others why they shouldn't get one Last night at an obedience run-thru one of the competitors brought her 14 week old corgi puppy. OMG, if ever there was a puppy more dangerously seductive than an OES puppy, this had to be it. I made a comment to that effect and the competitor next to me (with a very talented beagle) made the comment that she'd never had a puppy. I laughed and told her they're highly overrated and that I have two 9 month olds at home to remind me why. She started off on a rather self-righteous (no comparison to you, promise) little spiel about only having rescue dogs and I came back, oh, I have one of those too, pain in the butt, aren't they? Well, hers were inevitably terribly abused and she had to work through all kinds of issues. I smiled and told her mine was not abused, but rather comes by her psychosis quite naturally, and walked off before we got into some kind of bizarre pissing contest <g> But it did remind me that all dogs are a lot of work no matter where or how you got your dog, or at what age. But that they're all ultimately worth it. Kristine |
My dogs have been great. Although Jake used to bite me -- I used to say he had good taste. Or I tasted good. Either way. Mulligan though, he's been a spectacular dog. Truly spectacular. |
Quick update, we are in the house mostly. Both dogs are here, and doing about as Well as expected. There is some tussling which I am largely letting run it's course. Lacy is starting slowly to come out of her she'll but it's slow going. Under socialized is pretty much the phrase of the day. She widdles a bit if you approach her while you're standing up. She also tends to hide under anything she can. The new backyard is a real hit with both dogs. Photos as soon as I find the camera gear again. Two sheepies... I have two! Holy moly! Love them both so much! |
Roz, at that age they can still come out of their shells rather quickly. It'll be interesting to see. Kristine |
Is that her under the chair? Everything's new to her... looks like she's just finding a "safe" place to take it all in. I bet she'll do just fine with your encouragement to be inquisitive and by the example of your other dog. |
It will be fun. Bailey is 3 years older than Riley. They are like twins, doing everything together. And you can improve the socialization. |
What a wonderful story.....so glad you could give her a good home.... She is beautiful...hope all is going well and that you are all settled in... -d |
She's really coming around now. Ava is doing such a great job with her. I think they wear each other out, They'll romp and romp, and then Ava lays down, and Lacy comes and does something like sit on Ava's head, or try to eat the hair on her back legs, or just plain be a pain, lol. Ava largely puts up with it. Potty training is of course at the "OMG, rush outside" stage. Just when I was getting over it with Ava.... Haven't even considered starting her training yet. The good news is, that unlike Ava, Lacy is 100% treat motivated. It's like a breath of fresh air after trying to figure out how to motivate the first one. I suspect Lacy will be way easy to train, at least until Ava teaches her "sheepie stubbornness". Honestly, she's a little lover. Eager to please, happy to have any attention you want to give her, and just in general a really great little girl. And such a wiggly bum. **edited to add: I still haven't found the stupid camera. You guys may have to settle for crappy tablet photos until it makes its inevitable appearance in some box that I haven't opened yet. |
Yep, crappy tablet photos work for me..... Just razzing you - keep unpacking and trying to get settled! |
As young as she is, I'm betting she's already aware that she got a great second chance at life and is loving it and wanting to return the affection. Typical for a rescued dog from my experience. Both of ours were/are like that. And I'm with Dawn. slightly fuzzy photos are better than no photos. Vance |
I am so happy for both of you. Glad you found out about her with everything you had going on, it was meant to be. |
Older dogs give puppies free reign for awhile, but they do put their foot down (someties literally). Our vet always said humans have to remember the older dog is always right and the puppy is never right - helps establish the pecking order. The great thing is that Ava will help with the training. She will help notify you when Lacy needs to go out (not sure how they know), teach her the routine of the house and help her stay calm. Lacy will learn a lot by watching, so make sure you don't let Ava get away with anything you don't want Lavy to do too. lol Pictures!!!!!!! |
