Dogs and Ticks!!

Help! This morning I noted a tick on my OES, and was able to un-attach him. I rinsed it with hydrogen peroxide. Now, around 8 hours later. There is what looks like a dark area near the bite. Is this normal!? I'm freaked!

Take a deep breath and relax.............aaahhhh. You will find ticks on your pup from time to time. Deal with them in a calm manner. Get a little tick remover......looks like a spoon with a slice taken out. You slip the tick into the slice and slooooowwwwlllly pivot the spoon so the tick lets loose. Then you dispose of it in any sadistic way you image.....don't pop it least the blood get under your fingernails or into a cut. I like matches as the POP! The dab a bit of disinfectant on the attachment point. There will be a swelling there for awhile, perfectly normal.

Now, is the tick gone? One reason I don't encourage rash behavior is you don't want the tick to vomit while attached to the dog thus injecting more yuck into the dog. The slow gentle removal doesn't get them all riled up.....frustrated only. No telling what the brown spot is.....oxidized blood from the hydrogen peroxide? Can you feel the tick still attached.....I doubt it.

Ticks are nasty evil creatures but you have to remain calm to gently and safely remove the. Afterwards you can soak them with hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol. When we first adopted Harry we had a small jar full of the *&^%#@! When you've picked off over 80 on one dog you get over your squeamishness and are just plain mad. The poor boy had been running in the mountains frightened to death by fireworks and lightening....and then his stint in the dog shelter.
