Facebook that she's got to be close. I sent her a note this morning to see if she's ok... she has been posting on FB. I can't imagine being faced with this. Hoping our community members are all safe and that someone will let us all know if anyone has had to evacuate. There are many ways to help people and/or pets affected by this. Just sharing one way to help some pets. Below is information that was shared on Facebook by forum members. Doug too is a forum member and the Johnson's are my Kobuck's breeders (the silly boy on the right in the text link). From Ali- "Doug and Michealeanne Johnson have opened their kennels to dogs/families in need because of the Colorado Springs fire. No charge to the owners, but they'd sure appreciate donations to help cover food for all the dogs that are arriving" From Deb- "Sunrise Kennels (6580 N vincent Dr Colorado Springs 719-598-8220) is the Kennel owned by the Johnsons. Woodmen (6440 N Vincent Dr, Colorado Springs 719-598-4154) is another one in the area taking in animals. There is also a paypal account to send money to help get supplies for the kennels dogtrn@msn.com . Johnsons have taken in approx 50 dogs and they say fires won't be contained until mid July." http://www.sunrise-woodmenpetcare.com/contactus.html Just From Me- I did confirm the Paypal email address Deb provided last night. It comes up as Heather Johnson when you submit your Paypal donation. Colton (Doug & Michealeanne's son) and the kennel staff verified it this morning. Login to Paypal, click on the "send money" tab, copy/paste the email address dogtrn@msn.com in the box and be sure to verify it says Heather Johnson. Here's a screenshot of where to find the tabs/info. For those who don't know the Johnson's, you can verify information below before donating... The Johnson's Sunrise and Woodmen Pet Care Facility information- http://www.sunrise-woodmenpetcare.com/aboutus.html You can also verify their club involvement on OESCA website: http://www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamerica.org Dog food may also be sent direct... I'm not sure who originally shared this but I did verify with the Johnson's kennel that this is also a way to help... To send food direct- "...If you want to purchase dog food to be delivered to the Johnsons' kennels to help with the evacuated animals in their care, got to Petflow.com and use the Coupon Code BSTNSHOW. You will get $10 off your order of $59 or more and can have it sent directly to the kennels. Addresses for shipping food are located here: http://www.sunrise-woodmenpetcare.com/contactus.html ..." If something else is needed, hopefully someone will post. Thoughts and prayers to everyone affected. |

I'm glad some plans are in place to help those affected. |
It's always the animals I worry most about in these situations. It is a terrible fire and it's wonderful that these people are so willing to help. |
hope people are ok |
Thanks Jaci for posting this. |
This is a wonderful thing they are doing for these families. If we were in a smiliar situation, I know our pets would be our first concern. |
Devastating what is happening in Colorado, I hope everyone stays safe and if needed too, EVACUATE when told, never leave it too late, homes can be replaced, people, pets and animals Cant. After the tragic bush fires here and the loss of 180 lives not to mention all the animal satistics too, which will never be known, leave when told,, just not worth staying. Hoping it can be under controll soon or the sky drops rain to help Wonderfull to hear people banding together for the animals and providing a safe haven. |
Sending my positive thoughts and prayers to those in Colorado and their families and animals...Hope everyone is okay... |
Just wanted to report that the Boulder fire situation is improving, pre-evacuations lifted. The High Park fire, which is visible from Ali's house, has been incredibly destructive but does not pose a threat to her house. The CO Springs fire is terrifying and out of control. It is said 300 homes have burned. Apparently, it may have even been arson. The FBI is investigating. The scary thing is that it is so dry here that any lightening (which we've been having a ton of) could spark a fire pretty much anywhere. The firefighters have been putting out tons of grass fires, etc. that don't even make the news. Hooray for our fantastic firefighters. As far as I know, only 1 death has been reported. That is a miracle. For what it is worth, Henry, Maggie and I are going to be driving to Maine, leaving this weekend. We aren't leaving because of the fires but I will be really glad to be away from the danger. I need to be in time to meet family/friends in Cambridge for July 4th so I won't be doing my usual roadtrip visits, but I am hoping to see sheepdog people (Abuckie and the St. Louis peeps) when I pass through on my way home at the end of the summer. |
Glad Val/Maggie and Henry are safe, though I know it would be a major Boulder fire to get to them. Still a good time to leave town. Yes, we have a member in Colorado Springs, I'm sorry I don't remember his name, but he's northeast of the city, probably good views but safe. Bette Greene of Colorado OES rescue is NE of Colorado Springs but also forest area.....anything with grass or trees is dangerous right now. |
I was looking at the photos the Denver Post had up yesterday - it just made me heartsick. We're no stranger to big fires here in New Mexico, but they rarely happen so close to large population centers. To see those homes engulfed in flames... it just made me sad. Maybe it's because I just bought a house, and I can't help but think of the memories that families create in their homes. It breaks my heart. Glad to hear that it sounds like most people are evacuating (with their animals) as they are told to. Too sad. |
Hope all people and dogs are ok. That is scary. Thanks for the info on the help available. And wow to the fantastic fireman fighting the fires! |
We will donate via the link. God Bless and keep you all love from Liz and Digby Spirit dog Extraordinaire xxx |
This is from Best In Show Daily, 6/27/2012: Dog Family Opens Doors to Canine Victims of Colorado Fires Wildfires continue to rage through an estimated 5,200 acres near Colorado Springs, Colo., for the fourth straight day today. More than 32,000 people have been forced to leave their homes, many with their companion animals in tow. As evacuation continues, at least one dog family decided to open its kennel doors to take in small animals displaced by the Waldo Canyon fire. The Johnson family, well-known breeders and exhibitors of Bugaboo Old English Sheepdogs and Rocheuses Bouvier des Flandres, operate the Sunrise Kennels and the Woodmen Kennels in Colorado Springs. Doug, Michaelanne, Colton and Heather Johnson are taking in dogs, cats and birds at both locations. Large animals are being taken to equine centers. As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, more than 50 animals had been welcomed, with more expected. Evacuation of thousands of homes continues as more than 800 firefighters battle temperatures in the high 90s and 15 mph winds with 65 mph gusts, as they work to contain the fire. The Johnsons are not charging the owners of evacuated animals, so efforts to stockpile dog food and arrange for donations have begun to help offset the feeding costs. To show your support for the Johnsons' efforts to care for displaced animals, you can drop off food at the following locations: Woodmen Kennels, 6440 N. Vincent Dr., Colorado Springs, Colo. (If you need more information, call 719-598-4154.) Sunrise Kennels, 6580 N. Vincent Dr., Colorado Springs, Colo. (For further information, call 719-598-8220.) You can also purchase dog food to be delivered to either location by going to Petflow.com and using the coupon code BSTNSHOW. You will get $10 off your order of $59 or more, and the dog food will be shipped directly to the Johnsons' kennels. For those living out of state, donations are also being accepted through PayPal. To do so: Click on "Send Money,” put in an amount, then choose"Friends and Family.” When PayPal asks for the email address of the recipient, put in dogtrn@msn.com. You can donate with your PayPal or bank account without any PayPal service charge, or by credit or debit card for a 59-cent charge. Once again, dog people are coming together to show their support for those in need. Please consider helping the Johnsons as they assist families threatened with losing their beloved companions, as well as their homes. Best In Show Daily |
