We leave next sunday, July 1st for South Dakota. We've seen the Badlands, Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse on our trip to Glacier National Park in 2009, but this time we are going to spend more time around the Badlands area seeing Custer, the Black Hills and around there. Then go up into North Dakota to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. My thought is then to circle back around to home across North Dakota thru Minnesota to Duluth to take Rt 2 across the top of Wisconsin into the U.P. of Michigan to Mackinaw. Then from there if we still have time, go to Sleeping Bear Dunes and follow the lake front down thru Michigan back home. We will have lots of adventures and pictures to share. Teddy will get to see bison, elk, pronghorn and maybe some bears but not to close up for that last one! I finish my night shifts for this coming week at 6am Friday morning and then let the vacation fun begin! Cindy |

Sounds like a wonderful trip and I'm sure your nephew will enjoy it too. When route 2 meets with 141 in upper WI by MI you are only about 40 miles north of where we live. Have been to Mackinaw, very pretty island. |
Sounds like fun! Come visit Eevee if you come down through Michigan! Lol (: |
Sounds like a splendid trip. Have fun and take lots of pics. And visit the Corn Palace in South Dakota. |
I think it's GREAT that your 17yo nephew wants to go with you guys. Speaks volumes on how cool you guys are The trip sounds wonderful and from the sound of how much you work ...you need a nice break!! I think teddy will be in HEAVEN to be with you guys so much ...in different fun places!!!!! |
You will have a wonderful time. I've been to all the places you mentioned & they are beautiful & very interesting. |
That will be a great trip! If you are heading across MN my way, make sure you stop in again I took that route that you are planning on the way back - across WI on #2, then over the UP down over the Mackinac Bridge - very nice section to drive through! And Duluth is always a great stop. |
Sounds like great fun. I can just see Teddy in the passanger sheet with his Mom at the wheel. |
Can't wait to see pics of Teddy and his Travels!!!!!!! Have a great time!!! |
That really sounds like a wonderful trip!! Have lots of fun and great adventures! How nice that your nephew is going to join you and Teddy! Lots of memory making moments!! |
We should have lots of fun! Yes Paula, I've been to the Corn Palace a few times. I can't imagine doing all that work of decorating it! Dawn, I'd love to stop by again if I was going that far south but we will be on 10\210 to Duluth. I've never been in the U.P. or northern Michigan so I'm looking forward to that for sure. Yes, my nephew loves these trips with me. He went with me and Ben to California in 2007 when he was 12 years old and he was 14 years old in 2009 when we did the trip out west to Glacier. We went out thru South Dakota, stopped at Devil's Tower in Wyoming, then up into Montana to Glacier, then back down into Wyoming to Yellowstone and the Teton's and then into Colorado to Rocky Mountain N.P. and then to Pike's Peak in Colorado Springs. And after all this he still wasn't ready to go home. I cherish this picture of he and Ben on that trip. Ben was 3 and a half years old. I call it "Boys in their hats". It was barely a year and a half later that Ben died from cancer. Harrison's birthday is in January and when I had him out for his birthday he said to me, "we didn't have our big trip last year, are we going somewhere this year?' So I thought that was cool the 17 year old still wants to hang with aunt Cindy. I told him we didn't do the big trip last year because Teddy was too young to be out of the crate and it takes up a lot of space in the motorhome. Ben was a year and a half old when we did the trip to California and he was as good as gold. Teddy is the same age for this trip so hopefully he will be a good boy also. We do a lot of hiking and see a lot of great places so I know Harrison enjoys that. I guess besides that, if I had someone taking me on vacation for free I would want to go also!....lol |
That's wonderful! I love to see kids that are "grown up" but still want to spend time with family. He obviously has a great time with you or he wouldn't be asking to go on a trip again! Great memories for both of you! PS: LOVE the picture! |

My plans for Michigan are open ended since that half of the trip will be see what we have time for, but if I'm stopping in that area I'll give you a call and see what you are doing that day. Lunch or dinner would be fun with the boys again. Cindy |
You are swinging by to pick me up, right? What time should I be ready? Sounds like a great trip and packing as much as possible in it. You'll need a vacation to recover from your vacation |
I love the picture!! |
It sounds like you have a great vacation planned. On your way through Michigan, may I suggest that you stop in at Mackinac Island? Mackinac Island is so unusual, no cars are allowed, so just park your RV. You take a Ferry over, you love walking so can walk the island tour the Fort and Missionary area. Go to Look Out Rock (great spot for a pic). So you can walk, bike or take a horse and buggy. I hope you have the time to stop in, one of my fav places in my home State. Injoy your trip. |
Come get me! Nice trip! HAve fun and take lots of photos! hugs to teddy! |
Sounds like a fun trip. RE: Duluth. With recent flooding, you might want to do some checking to see if there are any travel issues. Duluth was hit really hard and will take some time to recover. The north shore of Lake Superior/Minnesota side is beautiful. One of my very favorite places in the entire world. If you feel you have the time, drive along scenic Hwy 61 for spectacular views of Lake Superior. |
Have a great trip!!! Sounds like a well deserved fun time! Will be anxious to see your pictures along the way! |
Too bad you aren't passing thru July 13th in Duluth - you and Teddy could join us at the show!! |
