Ladies or Gents

As a novice to showing as well as OESD I like to watch, look and observe. I had been watching the ladies going around the ring & would say that 90 % of them are very good also they move so well with there dogs/bitches & as for us men I would say about 65% do a very good job but were a bit stiff and robot like. I have watch the girls grooming & they are very good at that as well & not so many men can groom as well. As for info about oesd I think the men win on that section as we have a few swats in that part. So the men are the Ladies donkeys in a way as we do most of the lifting and the minor tasks. I started out as a poor donkey & went up the ladder due to Lori being Ill & that was my break in the lime light :). Just your thoughts about this

P, I know that women have a FAR better eye for the attention to detail, I know this from all the years I worked in the t-shirt printing industry. It was alway the women who were pulling the newly printed shirts from the dryer. They could spot even the most minor and insignificant flaw a mile off and in a split second. This kind of talent that I'm convinced is part of the female genetic make-up never really seems to faulter, not even with age. So yeah, I'll concede women do and always will rule the rings. BUT, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn. And with that thought in mind, I will soldier on... And I, or should I say Caitlyn will win, eventually.
I think men always look better in the ring. There's a lot less bouncing of body parts, plus every guy looks nice in a suit. Ladies clothing in the world of dog showing is, um, interesting.

I agree :P Bouncing women look hilarious!
Anyway, from the shows ive been to theres less men than women. Most the handlers are women.

I'm reading Josh Dean's book, 'SHOW DOG' and in there he actually points out that the woman handler he is featuring has a keen eye on fashion and in a footnote he clearly states that this is not always the case. Made me laugh loudly out loud. I'm standing ringside in a very nice but affordable suit that I bought for a job interview two years ago and I see some of the women walk up to go in the ring wearing what could easily be described as K-Mart Clearance Rack Specials. I understand that some people are into their dogs and their own little world, but really...

Women do have the luxury of wearing things that are a little more colorful, more forgiving with regards to movement and less layers and yet somehow, some of these women, who want to be taken seriously and as professional look like the really don't know or worse yet, don't care. I also get it that women's clothing can be pretty pricey, after all, I'm married to a self-proclaimed clothing junkie, (Jen's got many outfits that still have tags on them in any of her four closets, some are now out of style!). But if they took a little bit of time, they could find something that work on all levels and looks smart. If they only took half the time spent on making their dog look good on themselves.

Is there a rule that women can't wear the same color every day like we men can? If so challenge that like you would anything else... I have TWO suits. One black and the other black, with faint gray pinstripes. This is one reason I only do two day shows ;-) I'm planing on adding a gray suit, (or three!) VERY soon as I'm getting tired of being a white and gray hair magnet in my black suits. This is where Men's Warehouse will come in handy!

Run me out of town if you want...

Jen commented this past weekend that she should start a line of clothing for show dog women. She went on to list the criteria that would need to be met to make it successful. I think she might be on to something...

Reminds me that I still have to get a suit...

Just another thing to lump onto the "pile of things I bought for my dogs":
car
central air
king sized bed...
Gay Men always a winner, especially in velvet suits xxx
Girls rule, males are made for lugging crates, grooming tables heck anything over heavy for us chicks!!!, why otherwise did you know who put you blokes on earth??????? lol  :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Yes FEMALES do have a more sense of style, can boof up better the dog, because think most females with doing there own hair crosses over to a long hairy fluff ball :?: but if I were MALE in the showring, I am sooooooo way jealous, one tailored suit only needed, each week or so a different shirt, tie etc and a whole new look, WE the FEMALES have to find a variance in a big way to our outfits from week to week  :P Wether that be trousers, pants, skirts, jackets, shirts, for goodness sake you cant be seen in the same outfit like men in suits with a change of shirt and or tie it does not happen with us sheilas!!!!. :twitch:

You blokes get it way toooooooo easy  :P
Not just the clothing, Lisa - men tend to move better, and not just for lack of, eh, obvious bouncing parts. Not only does their striding seem to be more effortless and the timing better, they tend to distract less from the dogs.

Much of what I learned comes from a former prof handler friend of mine. He's also a 3000 x better groomer. When I first met him and was told he was married I thought no way does someone with such well-developed "hair dressing" skills and sense of style have a wife...;-)

Now, as for women and style, an American breeder-exhibitor with an exquisite sense of style, and she's tall and slender to boot, once wore a beautiful full skirt that LITERALLY completely obscured her dog. I mean, SHE looked fabulous. I'm pretty sure there was a dog there somewhere, but who could tell? Never mind, and this was at a national, I would have given her Winners Bitch for sure

Hysterical!

One of my very first dog shows there was a very handsome young man in a stunning turquoise suit, showing an all white standard poodle. Precious!
My bloke doesn't help - although he wants to hear about how we do afterwards.;)
I load the vehicle, tote all my stuff in the show grounds, set up, and out at the end. Unload the vehicle afterwards.

I do agree about the dress code inequality....women need to have different clothes for each day (or at minimum a good set of mix and match - which is BTW one of my OES relative's NAME!), whereas the guys can wear the same suit with just a shirt and tie change.

And yes, you do see some crazy attire.....and we have a small group who critiques footwear as well. :D
When showing Chewie I actually had a judge compliment me on my shoes...lol
It would be an interesting study, do men in suits or women slender and well dressed win more often then women who wiggle and bounce, have heavy legs, and wear "Nikes" with their skirts. In theory only the dog is being judged...

Bear in mind not always is the right end of the lead judged love from Liz and Digby Spirit Dog Extraordinaire xxx
