Head Titling

I was wondering if Bunkie was the only weird OEs in the world. Whenever you talk to her, she tilts her head to the left and acts like she completely understands what you are saying to her. Anyone else OES do this? It is just to cute.

AWW that's so adorable when they tilt their heads!

Shaggy used to do that when she was younger..(no longer now that she is deaf) You are right of course.....Bunkie understands every word you say!! So I'd advise that when you talk about her...and don't want her to understand you spell it. :D

>>convinced they are the smartest dogs
Spelling doesn't always work for long. Even if I spell out the work bath, Max goes and waits in the tub. Also if we spell outside or car ride he is at the door waiting to go. Somtimes I think these guys are to smart for thier own good.
Maddie tilts her head all the time. It cracks me up. You sure aren't kidding about being two smart. We did an experiment last night and figured out Maddie knws the names of the cats and can differentiate them by name. If I yell at one she runs to that one and tries to enforce the "rules" it really is too funny. Maybe I will try spelling their names to confuse her...We will see what happens.
Woof does the head-tilt thing only with sounds at a certain pitch - it's hilarious when eg. a police siren goes off on the TV....
Dougal doesn't really do the head tilting thing but on the subject of tv's, whenever he sees or hears any kind of animal (especially dogs) on telly he makes a dart for the screen and bumps his nose! We're forever cleaning off wet nose prints from the screen. Another thing that is really funny is he loves to watch football on tv! The only thing is, and I'm not kidding, he chases the ball!! He will sit and watch the match and when someone kicks the ball his head will jerk to the direction it was kicked! The funniest thing is when it's kicked off screen, he thinks it's coming out the side of the tv and starts looking for it!! No kidding...does anyone else's sheepie do this or have we got a strange one!
Max does the chasing the ball on tv thing too. We really had some fun with him one night. We hid his toy football behind the tv speaker before the game, and when he went looking for the ball from the tv he found it. It was the funniest thing I ever saw. But beware if they find the ball once, they don't quite understand why it doesn't alway go there when it goes out of view on the tv.
We have a 55 inch screen, so whenever anyone or anything runs across the screen I have to say "no" or Abbi will charge at the tv. It isn't so funny when there's no glass to protect the screen or Abbi. So now Abbi has to lay next to me to watch TV. I just pet her and check for mats and tell her she cannot go running after anything.
She barks at the dogs on-screen, sort of a hey come out and play yip, unless the other dog is growling. She now sort of tilts her head and looks at me when there's some dog or animal noises coming from the TV. Unless the girls go crazy she seems to refrain from the lunges more now.
She talks to us though. She tilst her heads and does this mumbling, meowing type of noise while she moves her mouth. If she doesn't like what I am telling her she "talks back" just like my daughters! The girls think it is a riot and my husband Victor actually talks back.
We left her at a kennel for 14 days once, came back and she had about 4 new barks. They were whiny high piched barks. Sounded like a terrier or some little dog. She quit using them after a while thank goodness.
But she does tilt her head at sounds and new pets. And she talks to us!
I thought Bunker was the only Dog who watched TV. If any other dog is on the TV, she runs up to the screen and put dog snot all over the screen.
Every day I have to wipe the TV, (I leave it on for her when I am at work). One time we were watching this dog challenge and they were throwing frisbees and they through one at the camera, she hit her nose so hard on the TV. It was so funny. She got mad a me for laughing at her.
Yes, Guinevere - and the other two sheepies I have had in my life - all tilted their heads when spoken too. I actually thought it was a sheepie trait that they all shared. And yes, they certainly do understand alot more than we will ever give them credit for! LOL

Cheers,
Guinevere's Dad, Kevin Z.
I loved reading these stories!! Made me chuckle and thanks for sharing everyone!
I always wondered why they tilt their head. It looks so cute. :)
I love it when they do that, Sami does it all the time, Blue never does
Nanny does this all the time. I looove it!! :hearts: She'll be sitting or laying down in front of you and if you stare at her she'll tilt her head. If you start talking, she'll tilt from one side to the other every so often. It's adorable. :)

I'm not exactly sure what it means, but it kind of looks like she's pondering something or saying, "What?" Jason was talking to me about something last night and I tilted my head when he was done (not on purpose). I started laughing and said "Hey, I pulled a Nanny!"
Daisy used to do this a lot too. Especially when we said' Walkiiiies!' She would instantly pick her head up with it on one side as if to say 'Did I hear you right?' It got so if we were discussing it between ourselves we had to say "Are you ready for a 'W' now?"
Violet does the "head tilt" and I think it is so adorable. She melts my heart everytime she does it. Do you think she knows that?
Pearl has never done it..........but Heart is beginning to....she is so adorable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is the head tilting thing just a sheepie thing or do any other breeds do it as well? :?:
Our boy Becket loves to watch TV. Especially when dogs run across the screen and then...disappear.

Then he runs around behind the TV to see where they all went. He just cannot understand what happened...Then he comes back on the bed to pout because those TV stars won't play with him.

I think all types of dogs do it. I've seen my sisters dogs do it, and one is a spaniel-mix and the other is a border collie. And I've seen dogs on tv do it to. They probably do it on purpose because they know how cute it is. Just like when they give puppy dog eyes.

And it works like magic because they usually get whatever they want after they give the puppy dog eyes and the head tilt.
Bailey does it when he hears his favorite words, like "cookie", "dog park", "car", and "Panda" (as in "do you want to go visit Panda?").
Nigel does it when you use a certain happy tone of voice...and he always gets upset when he hears a dog or sees one on the tv...gotta find that other dog!!!

This head cock went with "Do you want a cookie?"...

Panda also cocks her head to bye-bye, is bailey coming over?(and this also entails running thru the house, opening the back screen door and pacing till he gets there), dinner, baby, daddy...... oh forget it...the list is too long...she does it all the time...i really think she is trying to understand me....
Chewie is probably the least head tilting dog ever!
The king of head tilts of ours is Travis's Dino - a min pin. He has a swivel on his head! He tilts his head for everything and anything. :D
