First up is Bill and Dudley, Caitlyn's brother. Then Me and Caitlyn and the rest in the breed. I really don't know all of them like I probably ought to yet, but it'll come... Sunday was still hot but the humidity was lower so it wasn't quite so bad and we started an hour earlier too Vance |

looking at the video . You need to take longer strides also bit of a odd place to stick a ring with a tree in the middle |
P, that ring was the one with the 'twig'. There was a ring on the other side of the tent that had a huge maple tree smack in the center that must have been a good 40-50 years old as it was approaching two feet in diameter. As for my strides, I was still getting used to the grass. In a regular indoor ring, I think I do OK. Being my first weekend on grass, I was still feeling a bit awkward. I really don't like the outdoor thing to much yet. Maybe it'll grow on me, but not yet. Vance |
At outdoor shows they try to set the rings on the most level areas available. That tree wasn't actually in the way at all, just a bit of a distraction. I'll take that tree anyday over a ring with holes in the ground or where you have to run uphill on one side. I do think our dogs look the best running on grass, outdoors. It is just such a natural looking thing for this breed. But with alot of us getting older, I am prefering the rings indoors simply for safe footing. Tenting is becoming so expensive that alot of kennel clubs are opting to rent buildings at fairgrounds. |
Having never been to an outdoor show, I really didn't know what to expect. I don't know if how Echo Hills does things is typical, but I did like how they had the tent and rings set up within the area that they had to work with. Below is a rough layout of what they did. They had the rings set up so the area where the dogs stage prior ro going around the ring, the dogs and handlers are actually under the tent, in the shade. The as they ran the dogs around, they were in the sun with the final stack also in the sun. I did like that as I'll be the judges had a really good look at the dogs in the sunshine. Of the six rings, all had some shade while Ring 6 was a wash of shade due to the huge tree that was dead center of Ring 2. With regards to what Marilyn said above, these rings were all pretty flat and the three rings that I was in throughout the weekend, all were surprise-free. Our next show is in Lima, OH next weekend which is also an outdoor show. Someone this past weekend said that the rings are on an incline, so that should be fun! I'll try to get some photos of how that place is laid out then. Vance |
Looks like another great weekend. Keep up the good work |
Somehow I missed this - nice video! In almost every sport we do, I find watching us on video is about the most helpful thing there is! |
