He is probably acting this way because after 6 weeks it is a very uncomfortable job for him and the groomer. If I waited 6 weeks to groom my dogs their coats would have turned to cement. The mats become very uncomfortable for them and it sounds like that's what is making your dog look raggy. If you did it a little every couple days and made it into a great experience it would be much easier for you and your dog. Then he would be very happy to know when it is time for his treats and attention. Also, I never think it's cute to be snarled at (by people OR dogs ) and I think he is just trying to tell you something. Maybe pay attention to the snarls before they become bites. I'd hate to hear anything bad happened... Shellie |
I'm confused, are you shaving him all the way down to the skin every 6 weeks or leaving some hair? Are you talking about shaving, brushing or both every 6 weeks? |
If you are only brushing him every six you need to do that 3 times a week and depends on the age. If its six weeks & no wonder he is sad |
OES need a lot of grooming, much more than a brushing every six weeks. They need to be brushed thoroughly at the very minimum once a week if their hair is long. If the hair is short, then you can get away with less brushing. Are you taking him to a groomer to get his hair shaved down? I think that's what you're saying. Maybe he doesn't like the groomer you are taking him to. Also, snarling is NOT cute. That's a dog's way of warning you that he doesn't like what you are doing and he might bite you. |
Are you only bushing Blu every 6 weeks? Or do you take him to a groomer every 6 weeks? You need to at least brush your dog every week. I line groom Bloo every day! Its probably too much, but he has a routine of he goes on the table before bed and he has his bone and milk after that. I agree with Jade, if Blu is snarling at you when you put lead on etc. Theres a good chance hes giving you a warning. Bloo has snarled at a dog before but that was because he was trapped by the other, but never at humans. He bites and barks but thats the collie trait i think. Anyway i too am a little confused on this....are you talking about blus behaviour, grooming or both!? |
Hello,I give Sprocket a brush over most nights depending on if I am in and if he is "seeing" anyone-have to be a smart boy!! He lays on the floor (never had a table) and I sit/kneel with him and brush-he chews a toy and I sip at a cuppa, then when done he sits on my lap for a cuddle-. I am trying to work out how to put a picture on here? Allyson + Sprocket.x PS,ment to ask what the "shaved" means on my profile and how to remove?x |

Sprocket sounds like bloo! Enjoys a cuppa and a knaw on a good old chewy toy |
Do not feel sad. Just give your oes a good full brushing and re commence the twice a week regieme. Or get a dog groomer to visit? Bet you wish you had not admitted to 6 weekly now hee hee. We all fall behind sometimes. My Digby is old and shaved now, much less brushing Liz and Digby xxx |
Thank you for explaining the "shaved" bit. I have very hot feet as a certain fluff monster is fast asleep on them.x |
Even with short hair, Kenny will still mat if we don't brush him. When he just gets his puppy cut he won't mat easily but after about a month, if i go more than 2-3 days without brushing i'll find mats. I generally brush him about 2-3 times a week as it is, just so he continues to get used to it! |
This breed requires frequent (2-3 times a week)brushing to keep the mats out. If you are only taking your dog to the groomer every 6 weeks and doing nothing else in between, no wonder he is telling you the visit is not a pleasant experience. He will be full of mats and it will not be a good experience for either the dog or the groomer! It won't take much for you to turn the situation around. Just start after the next grooming appointment when it will be easy to brush a bit every couple of days. Then you'll keep the mats away and the very next visit to the groomer will be much more pleasant for your dog. The groomer will also be very pleased. Snarling is never "cute" and you'd be wise to address it now. If not, it will most likely escalate into something you do NOT WANT very soon. Linda Zimmerman & Hudson, Chloe & Kristy |
