We're weren't showing anyone when we brought Caitlyn home, but if it helps, here's how we did it and it was picture perfect: We live one house away from a three business strip-store. When we came home with Caitlyn, i dropped Jen and Caitlyn off there and I drove the one more house home and walked Zoey over to meet them. This was perfect as it was neutral ground but Zoey was familiar with it. As we turned the corner, Zoey saw Jen and got excited and then saw the other dog and got REALLY excited - she loves other animals. We walked up to them and the two dogs sniffed each other in total silence from us. After a couple minutes, Zoey was content and looked at me as if to say, 'OK, let's go home now.' So we did with Zoey leading the way. When we got home, Zoey and I went in first followed by Caitlyn and Jen. And it's been fun ever since. Since I really don't think dogs and showing dogs don't really have and 'off-season', I guess the best time would be to bring in the new one at the beginning of the longest time frame between shows. Like for us, we'll be showing in early August and not again until late October. So if, and I'm not say we would, but if we were to introduce another, I'd want to do it right after that August show, giving everyone involved the most time prior to the next show to recover. Vance |
Winston is almost 16 weeks old, been with us almost 8 weeks and doesn't pull on Dexter's coat near like he did, sort of like he has gotten big enough that he doesn't have to use the coat as an equalizer. Coat condition/preservation/renewal was one of the many issues considered when we retired Dexter, it wasn't shredded bad enough to detract from his general appearance but well beyond what we wanted to show and would take much more than 2 months to get back in shape. We have a friend that said her puppy pulled nearly bald spots in 2 of her show dogs, bad enough she took them out for almost a year. |
