New puppy- when to bring her home? Advice needed!

Hello, everybody!

I am a new user here but have been reading along for a while while getting ready for my new OES.

Well, today was the day I completed the purchase, and I am very happy and excited, but one question remains.

Originally, I had hoped to bring puppy home in August after a month of summer travel.
Since I live in Guangdong, China, OESs are fairly rare, so I contacted the breeder in advance.
To my surprise, he had a new litter of puppies ready to go (8 weeks old) so I decided to buy now while I could.

The pup still needs shots next week, after which we could bring her home.
I will be home until mid-July, after which I will travel abroad for a month.

My concern/worry/question is about bringing her home for a month, then leaving for a month.
Will this cause separation anxiety issues later on?
Would be better just wait, and board her at a kennel until I return?

I look forward to hearing what experienced owners think about this- many thanks in advance!

I would ask the breeder if they could look after the puppy for that month. If they are a good breeder I would think they would have no problems doing this. May just be me but I wouldnt think boarding a young puppy at a kennel for a month would be a good idea. Im sure others with more experience will chime in and give better advice soon.

Safe travels and welcome to the forum.
Really good idea, Kristin. :D
It would probably be fun for puppy to stay with the breeder and be with
family again. Maybe offer to pay a fee to the breeder.

No boarding... puppy would have little immunity and could contract parvo,
kennel cough, etc.

Hoping this will be an option for you!
I agree...ask the breeder to keep the pup. I have done this many times for familes as I would never want a pup that young in a boarding kennel.
Yes, as most have said, try and see if you can leave the pup with the breeder while you are gone. It's a familiar place, so it would be the best option. If that's not possible, perhaps a friend could watch her for you? If you do that, please be sure that any dogs your friend has are vaccinated, so your pup doesn't get sick from their dog. You definitely don't want to have her boarded, she needs to have all her shots before going to a kennel and she would be pretty young.
Many thanks for the advice, everybody!
It seems to be nearly unanimous, so that makes it easier too. :D

The owner is a reputable person, and happens to be a sheepie lover, so I am sure she will be in good hands.
She is in the process of getting her shots; next round is next week, followed by round 3 at the beginning of July.

The concern about parvo, kennel cough, etc. is a legitimate one, but as she is getting her shots, I'm not too worried about that.
Besides, having other pups around could be a benefit for her socialization.

In the meantime, I'll just have to content myself with weekly visits.
I guess the waiting really is the hardest part!

Thanks again for the advice and support- it's very comforting to know I have such a wealth of expertise to draw upon!
