I do have chicken wire around it. Up, under or around they still get in. I've tried the spray stuff and that almost killed the plants. Will a scarecrow work? Pie tins? Or maybe a plastic owl? |

I've been putting milk crates over my baby cukes, zukes and summer squash. I have groundhogs. I HATE those darn things!!! I lost a cuke that I didn't have the crate over but the others are still there. Of course in time I will have to remove the crates and I'm not sure what I will do then. Ted did chase a groundhog out of the yard the other night. I cheered him on until I realized he was trampling my perennial bed and I was reinforcing the behavior!!! Oy! |
Rabbits are tough since they can dig under or jump over. Fence must be at least 3 feet tall...and if Jack Rabbits, higher. Often once a plant gets larger enough phenols and other yucky tasting things develop that most mammals will stay away. The trick is getting them to size unmolested. The crate over the top is a good idea.......maybe construct your own version out of lath strips and chicken wire. Good luck. No on scare crow, pie plates, pins, etc. With rabbits its a total exclusion. I dont think coyote or fox urine would deter them. |
