Rosie

Today Rosie died in my arms after a very beautiful, love filled but short life - 4 yrs old and suffering from lymphosarcoma I had to take her to the vets to make sure she did not have any pain or distress. She gracefully sank into her forever sleep with no whimper or signs of distress and I knew I had done the right thing.

My heart is torn apart. Rosie was my knee side companion for her short but beautiful and tragic life - we discovered that she was blind when she was a puppy - it was no real handicap to her - she just learned to negotiate life's obstacles with her amazing memory and intelligent caution.

I got Rosie because when I lost Doris I could not pull myself out of the grief of loosing my soulmate OES - Rosie mended my broken heart and tured tears into fond memories - there is no other dog in the world that can equal the love an Old English Sheepdog gives to a whole family. Treasure your beautiful bundles of fluff and joy, they show us how we all should live.

I think I might just go and cry now!

Even though I know :wag: she will be at the rainbow bridge with Doris and I know that they will both tell each other that they were the two most spoilt and loved dogs in the world.

I am so sorry for the loss of your dear Rosie. :ghug:
Oh I'm so sorry!   Rosie was the name of my parent's dog I loved to bits, such a lovely name. :ghug: :ghug: :ghug:
So sorry to hear about the passing of Rosie.
Much, much too young. :(
Sometimes I really try not to visit the "Crossing the Rainbow Bridge" board because I always am in tears from the new entries. I want to be able to take the hurt away from everyone, but I know I can't. I am so sorry about your loss. Please visit back often. It is a comfort with all the people reaching out to you at this time. We have been there and know the pain you are feeling. Once again, I am so sorry about your loss of Rosie. I agree with you......"there is no other dog in the world that can equal the love an Old English Sheepdog gives to a whole family. Treasure your beautiful bundles of fluff and joy, they show us how we all should live."
I am going to get on the floor and snuggle with my boys now. I'm so sorry for your loss. Rosie sounds like an amazing girl. Hugs!
I'm so sorry for your loss of Rosie. 4 years old is much too young. I know your pain all too well as I lost my sweet Ben at that same age to Lymphoma in 2010. My thoughts are with you at this most difficult time.

I'm so sorry to hear of your losing Rosie.
Wishing you a peaceful heart and happy memories.
You had to let her go way too young. :ghug: :ghug:
So sorry to hear of the loss of Rosie. Any age is hard but young is especially hard. May the many wonderful memories you have of Rosie fill the hole in your heart. :ghug:
I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Rosie. Time will take away the hurt and replace it with loving memories. Have a good cry or two. Allow yourself to grieve.
I am so sorry for your loss... She was certainly far too young!!

I am so sorry for your loss of Rosie.
So sorry for your loss at such a young age.
Thank you everyone for your kind, kind words.
I discovered this site when I lost my 2nd Old English sheepdog - her name was Doris and she was the dog that grew up with my family of 3 children, she used to go to the playground with them and they would put her in the swing and take her down the slide - everyone thought that she was one of the kids - dressed in sheepdog clothing. The kids grew up and moved out of home and Doris was still there just doing her thing and hanging around like a toddler at my feet, she slept on the bed  , and generally attached herself to my leg wherever I went. The only place she became independent was at the beach - she would just run and run down the edge of the waves and not stop for miles. When she died it was as if someone had grabbed my heart and ripped it out of my body. I cried every day for 3 months and could not shake the grief of loosing her. This forum and the wonderful people on it gave me back the connection to her - your tales of rescuing dogs and criss crossing the country to deliver those dogs to new and loving furever homes made me cry and smile and sometimes both at once.

Here in Australia Old English sheepdogs are rare - I searched the classifieds for a puppy - I range the rescue service who told me - its very very rare to have a rescue these days because there are hardly any Old English Sheepdogs in Australia, hence no dumping of puppies that have grown up - people have to wait for puppies. I rang breeders or emailed them - in my search I discovered someone else who had just lost his own dear OES and was just as grief stricken as I was. We emailed each other for a while - a bit of support - Then I got an email back one day saying that there was a little girl available as one of the buyers had fallen through on a litter from Victoria - I was overjoyed my new puppy was on her way. :yay:

The next day I got another reply email from your very own Lisaoes saying she had a litter due if I wanted to put down my name. Lisa you were wonderful to me - you sent me details about Doris's parents and grandparents and gave me a link to her. I have always been so grateful for that information.

My new email support buddy was still heartbroken about his loss he had been trying to find the breeder he got his old dog from with not much luck and I told him you were going to have puppies. I think he got the last one! And she looks gorgeous on your litter pics!

Rosie arrived at the airport in a crate all the way from Victoria. She had one blue eye - I found it very disconcerting after gazing into the beautiful soft brown eyes of Doris and George (my OES rescue dog). At first I thought I had made a mistake, she was naughty and chewed shoes - well not exactly shoes - insoles to be precise. She would find a pair of shoes and take one out into the garden and suck the insole until it disintegrated into a soggy mess - usually the missing shoe was not noticed - it rained often and everyone in the house would end up with one well weathered shoe and one "new shoe" even the guests! It seemed impossible to housetrain her - it seemed to take forever. Eventually she got it but not for a long time. She chewed along the bottom of a sofa! 8O Non of my other Old English Sheepdogs did anything like that.

She was the alpha female and bullied poor George mercilessly for the rest of his life. George was my rescue dog who had been so mistreated he did not think anyone would ever love him again for the rest of his life. He was not a cuddly dog like Doris and Rosie were - he hung back in this kind of aloof way - no matter how much you tried to love him - it didn't sit well with George. Eventually we realised that George would not ever be like the other 3 OESs - He was a hunting shooting fishing kind of dog - a mans dog but he was scared of men. Black snakes, blue tongue lizards, paralysis ticks, possums - George wrestled and fought with them all - he never succumbed! Always a winner in any battle he would shrug off venomous snake bites and paralysis ticks - it seemed he was immune! He looked more like an Irish wolfhound and we fondly called him our wolfhound in sheepdog's clothing.
Old age and arthritis he could not beat - and while we were overseas in Europe my son rang to tell me that the inevitable had happened. Rosie moped around the house for weeks - she wouldn't even speak to us when we came back from Europe - It was a good three months before she returned to normal and started to show us her love for us, in her own special way - by taking one shoe outside and leaving it it in the garden in the rain! thankfully she no longer sucked the insoles - just thoughtfully removed them so the rain could get into the structure of the shoe unimpeded.
Once again I can't thank everyone in this community enough for your caring and sharing - keep doing what you are doing - because to me it was a big help and it has made a huge difference. :hearts:
Firstly, your tale of your dogs has made me smile. They are all different but all loved.
I am so very very sorry you have lost Rosie, but at least she is out of pain, although that is no help to your broken heart. As someone has already said my heart sinks when I see a new post in this section, but I make myself read the threads and through tears I try to offer words of comfort. When we lost Katy just to know someone, a stranger but also a friend, was feeling my grief and knowing what it feels like to loose a sheepie helped. My thoughts are with you and so is my love xxx
Oh way too short of a time with her. I am so sorry for your loss.
4 years old is far too soon to lose a loved OES. My heart ache for you. Hang in there. I know Rosie cannot be replaced, but the love of another OES sure does help. It did for me anyway. Hang in there.
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your sweet baby sheepie Rose. You gave her a wonderful life, all though too short. I loved your stories of Doris and George, what wonderful companions you've had. Strength to you during this diffecult time.

Tears,
:ghug:
My Heart is with you. Love from Liz and Digby xxx
I am so very sorry. She will be with you forever. Take care of yourself xx

:ghug: :ghug:
I wondered if you could post the poem for me and Digby to read? xxx
