What a relief!!

Charlie has lumps. He has had them since we've had him (since 9/11/09) and after tons of research I decided they were sebaceous cysts. In the last year they have more that tripled in size and I got a bit nervous. I asked Brandon to mention it during our next appointment, and to ask about getting Charlie's hip x-rays scheduled too, since we know there is something going on but aren't sure how bad it is. I had to work so I wasn't able to attend the appointment.

When I got the report from my husband I really started to freak out. He said the vet (the younger of 2 in the practice) looked at the lumps and said she thought we should be more worried about the lumps and should take care of them first before we do the hip x-rays. Of course the rest of the information was sketchy and Brandon couldn't remember "word for word" what she said!!!

So... I've been worrying about it and we decided to wait until after Sheepiepalooza to take him in, in case it was something serious. Well we went in yesterday to see the other vet. He took a look at Charlie's lumps and listened to my complete chronology and history of the lumps... and said "well, he isn't going to die from it" UUGHHHH.... freak out, I thought... "this is something called a sebaceous cyst, and these are actually small in the scheme of things, it's the ones the size of grapefruit you have to worry about."

HA!!! What a relief :-) So we may go ahead and have them removed when he has his x-rays, but my buddy is ok! And I will be going to every single appointment from now on! :cow:

I'm not sure if you felt Frankie's cyst on his leg. His is also a sebaceous cyst. He's had it since he was about a year old. When he gets his teeth cleaned this summer they will remove it. But I worry about it also, it has grown alot.

Glad Charlie is going to be ok.

Very good news for you and for Charlie!!!

And I NEVER, ever send Todd to any appt that has even the remote chance of needing any diagnosis or decision making....he's even messed up vaccine appts!
Glad to hear that he is doing well. And I am with the others on this, I love David and I know he would walk through fire for the girls, but he just doesn't hear things the same way I do and definitely doesn't ask questions. So if it is an important appointment, I want to attend.
That is a relief! Glad it is nothing serious for Charlie!

And I agree with the others--I go to the appointments. Learned that after a few I missed. It just works better for all concerned that way! :D
I want everyone to notice...only women have answered so far. All have said they will forever go to appt from now on :)

I always tell dh to ask questions for any Dr. appt he has. Of course he doesn't. And yes I think he hears things different than I do.

So now if he takes the dogs or himself to the Dr. and I can't go, I tell him to call me, put me on speaker phone and its like I'm right there and "I" can ask all the questions or get clarification.
Seriously!!! I even wrote a list of the questions I wanted asked... Somehow the concept that I would want him to remember the answers eluded him!!! Lesson learned! It is funny how it is the women who have responded to this post!!! I have to say I am glad my DH cares just as much about our boys as I do, even with his blatant disregard for my need to know the details of the vet appt :-)
Nope, won't send dh for important appointments. I go alone or with him.

Sebbie cysts.....we have them in spades here. Miss Mo is little miss lump lump with at least 5 good size. One is behind a fore leg and vet worried because it didn't wiggle or move. Just where it is located, there's no room to wiggle. Jack has several as well. And who could forget Glacier and her two ruptured cysts.
My Lucy had those cysts and they used to freak me out. There was one so big on her back leg and on her side that everyone that would touch her would say...... Do you know she has these lumps? It used to make me so mad... Um, yes, I know she has lumps.... We used to call her Lucy Lumpkins and how I miss her so....
She was old when she got them and so they didn't remove them, they just would aspirate them to try and drain them. They would always come back, but, that was the best we could do bec/ she was just too old to put her under for that. Plus, the one on her leg was really intertwined and we felt she wouldn't recover well.

She just lived her life happy and as Lucy Lumpkins for a few years! It seemed to bother me more than it bothered her.
I guess Brandon's off vet visits from now on.
Glad to here Charlie is ok! I always tell Kim she doesn't have to come to our vet appointments, I listen just fine and ask all the right questions! And has nothing to do with the fact our vet is really cute!
:sidestep:
LOL! Maybe Brandon does that on purpose... the old "if I screw it up I won't have to do it anymore" trick, right???
I would never send Jacob to the vet alone, when he gets off the phone I ask what they wanted and he always tells me "I don't know."

Anyway, I'm glad it's nothing too serious!
Glad to hear the lumps were just sebaceous cysts. They can be managed very well. Some dogs seem to be prone to them & others not. I've had some dogs that get them & others that have never had one their entire lifetime. Good to have a vet that errs on the side of caution but also not so fast with the scalpel. What is really good is that he explained everything to you.

  as the mother of four boys, that's what I was thinking
Our vet knows whether the appt is about something more serious or not by who comes to the appt. If it's DH he doesn't worry if it's me he knows there's something needs looking in to.

When DH goes and I ask "what did the vet" say his answer is always "he said it was fine" or "he said to come back". Argghhhh, not enough information.
Send hubby to a vet appt with Oscar????? Sorry, just got back up from rolling on the floor with laughter. :D

My hubby is extremely bright and certainly competent (cute, too 8) ), but what he does not have is 8 years of Oscar's long, varied, detailed medical history taking up valuable space in his brain. :D I might not be able to remember my nephews' names (just kidding), but I know every test, every surgery, every drug resistant infection that Oscar has endured.

Now where did I put those keys????
