As we all know it takes but a fraction of time to get under our skin and embedded in our hearts. Wendel is with many of our old friends and will be well watched over until you meet again. Many of have been in your shoes, some recently and sadly some frequently. You're in a great group who knows your pain and will be there when ever you need anything. | My heart feels both empty and yet eviscerated. I called my breeder and we both cried and reminisced over our impish boy. Our tears were intermingled with laughter and good memories of our devilish blue-eyed boy. As much as I know there will never EVER be another dog in the world like my Wendel, I wonder if he's still with me. Asterisk has been sleeping in Wendel's spot all afternoon and Levi has been crawling in my lap like Wendel always had. They are grieving in there own ways, I think Asterisk moreso, she and Wendel have always had a special bond. Thank you, everyone, for being so empathic and kind. |

| Wendel is always with you. Stay open to the signs because they will be there. I have had a few in the past year since Pooh has been gone. One just last week. I know people may think I am crazy, but there can no other explanation to what has happened during those times. It is a comfort to me. Once again, I am very sorry about your loss of Wendel. |

We also lost our first OES to a sudden illness when he was young (5), and we just felt robbed of time with him. | We all understand the intense pain you are feeling now. I felt like all my insides were ripped out and I was hollow inside. Was listening to the radio this morning and the Patty Loveless song "How can I help you say Goodbye" played. Made me teary eyed. After we lost Pooh Bear I was constantly hearing that song on the radio and would burst into tears. I think Pooh was sending me that song to help me. It still brings me to tears. We are here for you. |

I wish there was more that I could say beyond "I'm so, so sorry". The loss of a beloved companion is always so hard. But when it happens unexpectedly, and to one so young, it seems so unjust. I wish there was more I could say, but there really isn't anything beyond how very sorry I am that you're going through this, Erin. I'll miss the photos and stories you'd post about Wendel; he was such a character and a shaggy love.  |
| Thank you, so much, everyone, for your sweet words. It's the funniest thing. Wendel was never a very loud dog, but he was such a huge presence. It seems like there is too much carpet, too big a space on the sofa, the window looks too big without his huge mass at his favorite spot in front of the window, and it seems far too quiet. Asterisk has been circulating her body in everyone of Wendel's spots. Everytime I look at her, she's moving from one spot to the other. Levi seems to be taking on Wendel's traits, either from watching Wendel do them or because he's just trying to be a comfort. He's been jumping into my lap (he's not nearly as dainty as Wendel was about gradually sliding into my lap) and being glued to my side. He seems pretty sensitive to Josh and my presence lately. I filled he and Asterisk's bowl today and went to go into the basement to the cat room to fill theirs. Levi must have looked up and saw I was gone. He panicked and began scouring the house for me. Once he found me he did his happy dance and twirl and went back to his bowl. Neither one of them is touching Wendel's bowls, which I haven't had the heart to take down yet... I have been thinking about having some paintings/drawings made of my Wendel. Wendy was so sweet to have drawn my Wendel in the past, and I love to look at those pictures. I'd love to have one done of him with his full coat to really capture the full beauty of his gorgeous eyes and his sweet self. Are there any artists on the forum who may be interested in drawing him for me? I'd gladly pay you for your time and talent. |

When we picked up Angus at the rescue home, she offered to do this statue for my garden in Pooh Bear's coat pattern. I had him in the garden last summer and brought him in for the winter. I haven't put him out yet. It just makes me feel good to have it around even when I know it isn't Pooh.  |
