MY JUNIOR ROLLER DERBY TEAM JUST WON THEIR FIRST GAME EVER! I have coached these kids, organized bouts, dealt with tears, fears and skinned rears.... and we finally won. Our travel team, the Rick Rollers just beat the Phoenix Derby Brats 128 to 106. Dang it feels good! |

Congrats on your victory! |
Good job, it was worth it all wasn't it? |
Yes, very much so. It is an extremely fearful thing to watch these kids give and take huge hits the way they do, but we train constantly, and it has paid off. No major injuries since our league started, and our first win! Now pardon me while I go die of heat stroke. It was at least 105 on the track by 11 am. |
That's awesome! Congratulations! I always wanted to do roller derby, but there isn't anything around here really. |
That is wonderful!!! All that time, effort and practice is worth it! Congrats to you and the girls My granddaughter Bre (BreLeet) has her 1st derby scrimmage next Sunday....should be so fun! I will be showing Bond at 11am, then heading up to Minneapolis to watch them - great day!! |
Congratulations!! David and I attended our first roller derby match last year (a woman at the dog park is on one of Canada's best teams). It was very fun and the more I learned about the strategy the more I enjoyed it. I look forward to going again now that this season is up and running! |
Congratulations to you and the girls. Hard work pays off. Cool often and enjoy your victory. Carley's Mom |
I'm really getting "into" roller derby. I'm doing a huge fundraiser (http://aspire.jamberrynails.net) for our amateur team here in Idaho...out of Boise...Treasure Valley Rollergirls and it has been a real eye opener to see just how hard these ladies train and how much heart they put into every bout. Keep us up to date on the season...I love to hear these stories! |
congrats! |
When I was a kid, Roller Derby and "Professional Wrestling" both seemed to me to be strange and fake entertainment. It was in the days of Black and White TV, and my parent's tenant/neighbor used to sorta watch it as he read the paper. Always fascinated me that someone would actually watch either of those. (No offense is intended, just my memories) *shrug* I was very surprised to recently (within the last couple of years) to learn that there are some people who actually participate in Roller derby as an actual sport. But since you're actually doing it, I hope you are enjoying just the competition regardless of the outcome, but I am ESPECIALLY glad you had fun winning!!! |
Ron wrote: When I was a kid, Roller Derby and "Professional Wrestling" both seemed to me to be strange and fake entertainment. Roller derby "then" isn't Roller Derby "now". You're right, back then, it was a lot like Professional Wrestling. These days, Roller Derby involves actual athleticism, strategy, and rules. There are no alligator pits, punching, tripping, or fighting. But we still wear really short shorts and knee socks. But the sexy is kind of ruined by the massive sweat. |
Big Congratulations on your team's win. Hard work paying off is sooooo satisfying. Linda Zimmerman & Hudson, Chloe & Kristy |
