Vacuum referrals...

Didn't really know where to post my question, but thought this was the closest related to the topic I have... :?

The vacuum I bought prior to being owned by three sheepies, has decided not to help me out anymore. I need a vacuum that is very capable of sucking up these beautiful white hairs that these wonderful fourlegged buddies tend to leave behind.

If you have a vacuum that works wonderfully for this purpose, can I have info on that wonder machine?

Any advice will be very appreciated!

Thank you,
Tarja

ps. I hope this doesn't brake any rules as far as advertisement goes...?

Tarja, we have an electrolux, and it works fantasic....I have heard great things about the Dyson....I would love to try one of those...but since the electrolux refuses to die, looks like Im going to have to wait for that opportunity...one drawback to the 'lux...it is a canister vac, and I do tend to knock it into the walls and furniture dragging it around..anyone have the Dyson???
Hi -- I am new here and I don't have a sheepdog yet but I do have the purple dyson vacuum that is designed for pet fur. It is really excellent at picking up persian cat fur, including big tumbleweeds and loose hair that has been compressed into the carpet. It is way better than any vacuum I've tried in the past. It has some awkward logistics (accessing the extending attachment rod can be tricky and whenever the machine is upright, suction shifts to that extending attachment rod and there is a weird foot maneuver you have to do to get suction back to the base) but it is remarkably easy to clean the canister. Unfortunately, I have no experience with sheepdog hair. Hope this helps. . .
We have a Hoover Power Drive Supreme if they even make them anymore, but it works great, with 3 dogs we have a lot of mess to clean up. The only problem with it is that it does clog every now and then, we just unclog it and then it works again.
we have a dyson and they are great. As well as an oes we also have a long haired collie and a lab so you could imagine the fur.

We went through Hoovers at an alarming rate before we got a Dyson. The fur gets lifted no problem even after grooming.
How sad is it when I see this thread and start thinking, "Boy, I sure would like one of those Dyson animal vacuums!"? There's nothing even wrong with my vacuum and it seems to work great with no clogging. But, the purple Dyson is so fun and sttractive looking. Much more exciting than my green Kenmore.

Does anyone have the Dyson ball vacuum yet? How cool does that look?
the dyson ball looks really cool i wouldnt mind getting one.
I love my Rainbow. Works as well today as the day I bought it. Cost about $1200 - $1500 for the set when I bought it, but was worth it.

Because its a water system it also kills fleas it picks up by drowning them.

A friend has one and one of the kids spilled chilli on the floor. She put on the proper attachment and swept up the mess. It can also be purchased with the carpet cleaning attachments.

My Rainbow has worked wonders with 8 adult OES and several litters of puppies over the years. I would also run the attachment over the dogs to get the loose hair when I swept. They loved it! They'd be sitting and waiting for me to get to them, shoving one another out of the way to be first, and if i didn't do them after the floors, they had a look of disappointment on their faces.
My best vacuum ever was a Panasonic cannister vacuum from Sears, with the power head attachment etc. It lasted for what seemed like forever.
I recently bought a cheap Hoover Windtunnel bagless upright vacuum, and I love it. I do not think it will last even half as long as the better quality vacuums, but it does the trick, and no bags! :)
I have an Oreck. IT IS GARBAGE. Do not purchase.
I love talking about all my "animals" and that goes for the Dyson Animal as well. We went through vacuums like crazy, we would go out and buy one after the other, and it just so happened it is always after the warranty expires. We finally did some research on vacuums and the Dyson just kept coming up on top. We bought through Best Buy, so that we could add the extra 5 year warranty. It works wonderful, all of the accessories are wonderful!! It has a long cord so I can usually plug into one outlet and get the almost our entire home. It has a floor tool that does great on hard surface floors. The wand also stretches very far, so when spiders make a web in the corner of one of our 10 foot ceilings, we can still reach without help. We have had ours over a year now, and with at times 13 cats, and 2 sheepies, we use it everyday or more. It has never clogged on us once. It picks up sheepie and ragdoll hair with ease, along with any mess my kids can throw at it. If I am extra lazy and don't want to clean thousands of Lego's up, I can empty the canister and clean up Lego's by vacuuming and it doesn't tear them up...LOL :D
Anyway, who knew I could ramble on so much about a vacuum. LOL It is my choice though, I can't wait for a carpet cleaner by Dyson too!!

Stormi- I've been drooling over that Dyson animal too. Do you have issues with any hair getting caught over rollers or anything? My vacuums don't have plugging issues as much as the rollers get stuck because all of the hair (mine and the cats) getting wrapped around the brushes. This happens to the point where I have to take the whole thing apart and cut all the hair off to get the vacuum brush rollers to rotate. Is this an issue at all with the dyson? Or will I finally be able to lay the hair cutting aside?

Karen :)
Mouthypf,

Have you tried putting a drop or two of Pine Sol in the water? It insures the critters will drown, plus it smells like you scrubbed your house. I guess other cleaners would work, but it would have to be low sudsing or else your little R2D2 would have bubbles coming out its ears.
Karen,

The Dyson does still wrap hair around the brush system, but it does still have the strong suction. The great thing is that they made the opening of the rollers large, so you don't have to take it apart to cut the hair off. If you do ever have to take it apart though, it has the type of screws that you place a penny in to turn and it snaps right off. It is such a simple thing. I really have nothing to complain about except on thing the handle when placed in an upright position and the power still on, the air sucks in and can easily grab onto long hair and pull it in. It has happened to me twice and it took a lot of hair with it. I make sure I have my hair pulled back when I vacuum.....LOL

Pine-sol, Lysol, and other house cleaners have an ingredient called phenol, it is dangerous to dogs and very toxic to cats. I don't know if the small diluted amount you are saying would do any damage, but still something for future reference.

I knew the problem with cats, but not dogs. You mean they really do have to move their butts when I mop the floors? And here I had gotten used to mopping around them.

So what do people use for cleaners? No, I'm not getting Amway's stuff!
I want a Dyson! :) I have a Thermaxx (similar to a Rainbow) and a Bissell Bagless vac. They both work great, but my Bissell just bit the dust before I left. I guess I'll be getting a new one for my birthday... The Thermaxx works great, but I vacuum like 2-3 times a day, so it's a pain to put together that often. I usually just use it for heavy duty cleaning, steam cleaning (but I've grown to like my Bissell Proheat upright more for it for floors...) and making the whole house smell yummy with their scents.
We had the hardest time figuring out how to empty my mil's Dyson (the canister), which happened to be the first time we used it.

We felt so silly when we decided to purchase our own and saw the video (being displayed next to the vacuums) showing how easy it is to open and empty it.

I've wanted one ever since Ellen, Oprah, and Julia Roberts said they had one and EVERYONE should get one. I believe that was the day she (Oprah) gave everyone in her audience one.

They're hands-down the BEST!
I wish Oprah would send ME one........................
